Best Protection Sealants?

Hi everyone,

I am looking into trying out new synthetic sealants and I wanted to know which brand/model of sealant provides the most protection. I'm not looking for best "look" or best "gloss", I'm mainly interested in best layer of protection and its longetivity/durability. Where I live, things get dusty/sandy quick and after a while, it starts getting to the car's paint.

My car is a metallic black Mercedes E-Class by the way, and it just loves getting dirty even if it's not moving :(

I used to use Menzerna FMJ but now it is being re-branded and I figured to ask some of the experts what they think is best sealant (strictly in terms of protection). I was looking into some of these products:

- Menzerna Power Lock
- Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0
- Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection With Polycharger
- Zaino Z2-Pro
- Zaino Z5-Pro

Thanks in advance :xyxthumbs:

First, Welcome to the forum!

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 in my opinion provides the best protection of any sealant I've tried. To give it added depth and protection top it off with Collinite 845 or a good quality Carnauba wax.

Duragloss 105 looks awesome on Black and one of the most durable on the market.

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 by far, top it with a good Carnauba wax like Dodo Juice supernatural amazing shine, and depth

Klasse Sealant Glaze lasts up to 12 months depending on use... Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant lasts about 4-6 months, but looks waaaaayyyyyy better on black

If you care enough to ask this question, you probably don't mind having to re-apply every 4-6 months:)

Thank you guys so much for all your replies, I really appreciate it

However, I am now a little more undecided than I was before since almost everyone gave a different answer :) LOL, comes with the territory I guess.

I usually re-apply new layer of sealant once a month, would this be a problem when using Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Sealant or Klasse's Sealant Glaze?

I truly think the question cannot be answered, at least without testing in professional settings and many different environments. Sure we can note some of the longest beading or most durable (appears lasting) but how do we know its protecting ?? Maybe the product with the longest durability has the cheapest on no UV protection in it ?? Maybe we darn near buffed it all off, or washed it off ?? I truly am not sure anyone can answer the longest "protection". Is sheeting less protective than beading ?? Is its ease of use compromise the length of time it protects ???

So I might suggest, trying and using the ones that "seem" to work best in your environment. Measure the success of a product by its look, durability, and feel thru-out the area of time between coats.

Don't worry, the number of potential sealants is mindboggling. I am by no means an expert on sealants. I bought the Wolfgang sealant based on recommendations on this forum and Dwayne at AG. It is a remarkable sealant; however I wanted something that mimicked a carnuba wax finish.

Different sealants may leave a different look or finish, so what is best protection may not give you the look you're after. Were you happy with the look of the FMJ or does your head spin when you see another black car with an unreal finish? Most of the sealants sold by AG should provide plenty of protection and proper beading for over a month, so you should be ok finding a product that makes you go "Ga-Ga" when you look at your Mercedes.

If you read through the threads, topping a sealant with carnuba seems to not only give a great finish but may give double protection from the elements. The Collinite waxes seem to have a tremendous following for durability if you want either a long lasting wax or the double protective of sealant plus wax.

Since you apply sealant monthly, you might also consider a spray wax that you could apply every week after washing in about 20 minutes over an initial sealant application. Optimum Car Wax comes to mind as a potential option and Old Tiger has been singing the praises of the Four Star Spray wax recently. Both should give you added protection over a sealant alone. Find one that is best for metallic black. Just remember that most of these sealants want clean bare paint or a sealant base when being applied. Sealant over wax may not work properly, so you will need to strip the wax before resealing.

About a month ago, I tried some Optimum Instant Detailer (OID) as a QD after washing. It makes an incredible slick finish (check it out after 24 hours) and wonderful glow. It seems to resist dust buildup reasonably well, but I don't have a black car. There were several threads about QDs that seem to have an anti-static or anti-dust property which might also be a solution for you. I think that FK425 was mentioned.

Good luck with your search for the perfect sealant as sometime soon, I have to correct and seal/wax my wife's girlfriend's dark blue C class. I may need your advice on sealants!

UPGP gets my vote. Wipe on walk away. Why this stuff gets so little mention is beyond me. Stands up great by itself or can be topped with your fav wax after a 12 hour plus cure time.

:iagree:

I use the Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 This has been the easiest Paint Sealant to work with and had the most depth and gloss on a dark colored vehicle. I would like to give the new Menzerna Power Lock polymer Paint Sealant a try.

FMJ with quick detail after wash the the High Gloss acrylic shield. i have a platinum gray metallic car and i think it looks fantastic especially if i top it with a carnauba wax. just my 2 cents worth. picking the best sealant or wax i think is like picking which one of your children you like the best. judging from the pictures on this and other sites, i don't think you can go wrong with just about any of the one's listed.

Agree and if you apply it over DG601 you extend durability even more!
I use this combo on my wheels. Thee UPGP looks great on dark metallics and I would recommend Four Star Spray Wax after every wash. It is a first cousin to UPGP. Only problem with UPGP is cure time, but it is soooo easy to apply. If I recall you shouldnt drive with UPGP for at least an hour or two.
