In your opinion what is the best topper for a coating (I have Cquartz on one car and Modesta BC-05 on another)?

The toppers I currently own are Shine Supply Wet Detailer, Kamikaze Overcoat, and Carpro Reload.

My goal is to protect the coating with a sacrificial layer that has similar characteristics to the coating(dirt release, resistance to waterspots, scratch resistance, etc.).

Also, have any of you ever tried putting Blackfire Wet Diamond (or a similar sealant) over a coating as a sacrificial barrier? BFWD is one of the slickest surfaces I have ever encountered, in my opinion even slicker than Modesta.

I love to use Sonax Polymer Net Shield as a coating topper and a stand alone product. When in a hurry I will use some hydro2. I just wish the hydro lasted a little longer.

IMO...
There are no reasons to ever use a "topper"
on Coatings: Defeats their purpose.

I wish you well in achieving such a lofty goal...
with a "non-Coating" product.

Absolutely NOTHING...in fact it should be a felony to do so.

Well I guess I'm a felon and wasting my time but when a customer loves the way PNS makes some coatings "pop" and returns for that service I'm glad to top the coating after inspecting the paint for any recent defects. My customers are told this is for appearance only and no other claims are offered.

I agree with FUNX725 and silverfox.

...but, I do it anyway!

22PLE Final Coat or Dodo Juice Red Tropical Mist or CarPro Reload or Gtechniq C1.5.

I can't help myself. It makes little sense. Im the MAN

And when you apply a topper what do you find ?

^^^You're okay.^^^ :props:

I've been known to have done similar things...
but just only with Sealants and Waxes.

I call this: "Stacking".

Yeah...that's the ticket:
"Stacking" :bolt:

Topping is just that...it's the icing on the cake for those who take pride in ownership. It's not necessary, but a qd, wax, or sealant can freshen and soften the feel making you feel all fuzzy. So go ahead and top if you like (I know how hard it is NOT to play with your toys), just make sure to use the same brand or a compatible product that is synergistic with your coating choice; not one that would sacrifice the cool beading or attract dust.

OP - I went thru a similar thought process last year when I coated my cars. I tried two well respected waxes to get that extra pop. In reality it was time wasted. In my case the difference in pop was honestly unnoticeable and from a protection standpoint didn't really do much since it didn't really bond well to the coating.

So what am I saying? I would suggest keeping the car clean, enjoy the benefits of the coating and wipe down with your favorite QD as needed. I got just as much pop from my QD (IUDJ) as I did the high dollar waxes I tried. If you use the QD recommended by your coating manufactuer you will likely see the best benefits/improvements.

After wash, use Meguiars D114 (1:9) for drying aid.

Not aware of every last maker's product for such, but seems to be suggested by folks like Carpro and GTechniq to use such maintainance toppers on their respective coatings?

Such as CP Reload, or GTechniq C2V3, or Silo Seal.

I would assume such products designed for such will not harm durable coatings as CQuartz, or C-1/EXO. Will they maybe alter other properties of a coating? If so, is it truly that critical, and do they considerably alter?

And when you apply a topper what do you find ?
Bliss.

Some days I think there's extra depth of shine. Some days not.

What I do recognize is that 22PLE is a little grabby. If I apply a topper, the surface is slick. So, there's that.

As for extra protection, it probably adds a few nanometers of protection!

I find it funny to find so much resistance to toppers on a coating when many manufacturers produce products for just this reason.

If they really, truly, meet the criteria of being a 'Coating'...

Should manufacturers have to produce "cover-ups" for them? (Except for the "making-some-extra-money" factor, that is.)

Yep, I'm thinking this on one hand.

But, on the other hand, and while manufacturers make this stuff, it's us, the end users that use it. (Or don't)

Thus with that said, in no way would I turn to belittle those who choose not to use anything over a particular coating. I guess it basically comes down to personal choice.

I don't think anyone was attempting to belittle any other member. Heck I tried it and couldn't really tell the difference on my cars, not to mention it didn't hold up well. But I think I didn't hold up well as it couldn't bond properly to the coating underneath. I just didn't want to see anyone else to spend the money and be disappointed.

A "topper" product is good when having to release the car without proper cure time to protect. I also use it when doing check ups om my coating customers cars. I prefer to use same brand as coating.
