BIG NEWS- The Ultimate Detailing Machine

Don't sweat it punkey,
I am going through the same situation and the worst part for me is i can't even detail the car yet.
I have some detailing products lying around the house but every time i try to start something bad happens to the car (knock on wood x3).
I say stick with your choice for now, it will last for prob. a couple of years to come before you switch.

Can't wait to see how this new machine works out, knowing it is the first of its kind in production. There will always some kinks to work out before it becomes the new, lean, mean, polishing machine.

Now it is time to get back to my window shopping of detail supplies (i will be buying soon, choices... giving me a brain drain), Love you all @ autogeek and everyone on the board! :grouphug:

It is hard to choose :D so many many choices. I too love everyone at autogeek! It's a great place :grouphug:

The new machine will be called the Ultimate Detailing

Capabilities

To say that this is simply a "clone" of the Porter Cable would not give credit to the many improvements and the significantly improved capabilities. In short, this machine offers 90% of the polishing capabilities of a good rotary without the potential hazards. The combination of the more powerful motor and the vastly improved head unit allow this machine to work polishes harder than any other electric orbital on the market, yet the machine is smooth enough to operate with one hand at full speed.

I'm having a hard time believing that a rotary is only 10% better than this machine. Maybe for applying LSP's, but not anything more agressive than that.

According to DavidB, it can do the "Polishing" Capability of a Rotary. We'll side what it can do. I'll never lose my rotary otherwise.

I'm excited there are new products on the market, but who is making this new machine?

Porter Cable is a reputable company that has been making tools for many, many years. The sheer amount of money they have spent in R&D on their products is probably mind boggeling.

I'd like to see more about this machine, as in, what company makes it, how much has been spent on it, etc. etc.

Well that sucks we may not be able to use the Edge system. Kinda ruined it for me.....

As I said earlier, David B. from Autopia is making this new machine, along with the Ultima line of detailing products (and PolyCharger). No parts from the Porter Cable are used with this new machine.

David said that the power of the new machine may be too much for the Edge adaptor to handle, the same is true for normal backing plates... I'm not so sure that this is the whole truth rather than a ploy to buy the new 'reinforced' backing plates and pads... but that's all speculation.

Thats kinda what I'm thinking I think I will wait and see.

I doubt its a ploy. I have been using the machine for about 3 weeks now and there is definitley more power than a standard PC. David said that he has redone the backing plate for the machine. The current backing plate holds the pads like glue and its a bear to pull them off. I have used the UDM with Megs and Sonus pads with no issues.

Would you mind taking pics of the UDM for us? :)

It looks identical to your standard PC but with major enhancements.

Ive actually gotten a glimpse of one of the machines, it looks just like a porter but black and red. There are some edges near the switch are are kinda sharp, from the way it looks Im not too impressed. It also comes with a carrying bag and a handle just like the PC, i guess on the bright side it didnt come with a white pad haha.

We will have to see what the motor in the baby can do!

"version (220-240v/50Hz)" Wooo hooo. I love you AG. I will take the UMD to Thailand.

I just found UDM picture in autopia.

I hope this new machine works well and that David sells a bunch. I am always for someone improving a good concept. I just hope that it won't vibrate you to death at higher speeds like the PC can (really need to get the Edge system for my PC).

How will this be a better machine? I see that it has an improved head design yet it orbits no faster than the pc. With the powerful motor, the only benefit over good contours is we will be able to put pressure on it without bogging ?

Im not a machine guru, i just use them :p

that pic of the machine, the black part is just screaming metabo, or is it just me ? Either way, it looks like a more comfy machine to use :)
