I got the opportunity to prove to a customer that has never been to me before exactly why it's important to have a professional detailer you can trust!

Long story short...she had gotten her car done by a "detailer" who (for lack of a better term) was a hack.

We always talk about hack detailers on the forum. But, I haven't seen too many threads showing their work, ha.

So, after convincing this customer that these mistakes, errors, and bad technique are NOT normal by any means...she agreed to let me take the car. Not only that, she actually let me drive it from her home, to my shop. So, I guess that says something for my marketing skills, ha.

This is VERY pic heavy. I believe there's about 65 photos. I already put the album all together on my facebook page. So here is the link...

BMW hack job! | Facebook

I was going to upload all the photos on AG. But to be honest...I find uploading photos on here kind of a pain. Don't know why, ha.

Hope you guys like it! Feel free to "like" my page!

That is just pathetic...

Did the lady tell you what she paid to have that done?

Im sorry but when you can't even get all the crumbs and junk from under the seats.. You need to just close up your business and go back to school or something.

Beautiful work on that BMW.

Seeing all your photos makes me feel really good about my work. I detail purely as a hobbiest. Cars I detail belong to neighbors, friends or clients of my partner. I do not charge for my work even though I use expensive products, such as Wolfgang Fuzion. While I don't achieve a high degree of paint correction out of concern for being too aggressive, I don't leave any glops of polish/wax in the various crevices on a car, nor do I leave any junk under the seats. I give special attention to dried glops of wax in/around emblems. It is always rewarding when my "customers" get their cars back and are blown away over how they look. One lady actually did a little dance in my driveway when she picked up her M5 and saw I had corrected some scaring in the middle of the hood (bird poop she removed incorrectly - I taught her how to deal with it in the future). I just tell my "customers" if they are pleased with my work to consider a donation to one of the two non-profits in the Tulsa area that I support.

Doing a good job is so easy, I just don't see how the hacks get away with it. There is a lot of truth in one of the comments under one of the photos that car owners just think/expect a car is supposed to look that way after it is polished/waxed. NOT!!!

Wish it wasn't such a pain to see all those pictures on my phone :(

I feel so sorry for people that get their cars ruined by incompetent workers like that.

A neighbor of mine had finally bought his dream car, a Black BMW Coupe. He was very willing to develop washing skills so I showed him how to do a wash without causing any marring. And I gave him a couple of old buckets and some DP soap plus a few MF towels to get him started. And after half a dozen washes his car still looked great. Very few swirls and no rids at all.

Then he took it to the dealer to get a recall taken care of. I told him to put a sign on the steering wheel saying "do not wash or detail", but he forgot.

You guessed it. When he went to pick up the car they had "detailed" it as part of their after sales VIP service. The finish was ruined. Holograms, swirls. and some marks that I could only guess as being caused by the power cord being dragged back and forth over the finish.

Poor guy was nearly in tears. He must have really gone off on the service manager because they told him to take it to his own detailer, get it fixed, and they would pay for it.
I just don't know why dealerships keep butchers like that "detailer" employed.

Great job on the BMW!!!! Was she convinced after you detailed her car? How was her reaction?

I'm also curious what she paid for? To me it seems like she didn't have the interior done at all?

The only "negative" I have to say is that it seems like some of the tan vinyl could still be a little cleaner, but that all depends on what she actually paid you to do. I only comment on this because I literally JUST left some interior panels on my truck in similar condition.

The car looks amazing otherwise.

I wouldn't be surprised if BMW themselves did that. Fantastic work!

Thanks guys!

She paid me to do our "Silver Package". Except, that package is usually just a one step AIO buff. She upgraded to an actual polish. I used 205, and my GG6, followed by Megs #7 with my rotary with a soft finish pad. Then I laid down WGDGPS.

Someone had mentioned that the vinyl could have been cleaner...and I don't see where you see that. You may have been looking at some of the before pictures. Cause the vinyl was thoroughly cleaned. I will say though, that the vinyl was pretty heavily textured, so I used a combination of magic sponges, and brushes to get it clean. The texture can be a pain...but trust me, I had plenty of light.

The service she paid to get done in the first place was a "full detail", an in and out service. I know...the interior looks like it was never touched. But it was used between the time it came to me, and the time it saw the other guy. But only a few months. Not only that, this car is just sort of her toy. She doesn't use it every single day.

I think some people were asking me what she paid. I'm not sure what she paid the other guy. But, I know the other shop well...and their prices are higher than mine in some aspects. The only difference between me and them (other than obvious quality), is that they don't offer higher end exterior services. Their basic "full details" on most vehicles are pricier. I like it that way, cause once a customer comes to me...they pay less, and get better service. Done deal.

As far as what she paid me...I'd rather leave that unsaid, ha. Put it this way...I gave her a decent deal since she was a first time customer. I just wanted to get her started on the right foot. But, I definitely charged for my time, and she tipped! :dblthumb2:

Looks like she got the $19.95 VIP wash at the local scratch and slop, not a detail job. She should be thrilled with the work you did!

Nice Job Kris! Looks great and you have a new customer! Can't ask for anything else!

keep up the great work !

She was definitely thrilled. She couldn't believe the before and after. I showed her the pictures too, ha. She didn't realize just how bad it was before I got my hands on it!

It really is amazing that these guys have been in business for SO long, and still make mistakes like this. I can't believe they stay in business. One great thing about it...is that their shop is my biggest customer, ha. I get more customers from them than anyone else. Just a matter of time until this work ethic starts biting them in the ass.

Thanks fellas! :xyxthumbs:

Nice job.... And she will most def become a return customer. Fixing others work is great for business!

I've worked at a few dealerships and just like most of the "detailers" that work there, many of the outside "professionals" that come in to work on the higher end vehicles just don't have a clue on how to detail safely and properly. Working at a Ford/Lincoln dealership for a year I saw far to many MKZs, Navigators, and the occasional BMW thrashed by the mopbucket wash method then buffed with a wool pad. Those were the days when I said to myself that when I begin building my own detailing business I would never use any short cuts or low quality products just to make the quick Dollar.

Great save on the BMW:props:

Fantastic work my friend.

I hate when people take their car to people that claim they know what they are doing but they really don't.

Nice save Kris

Nice turnaround Kris! It's always good to have another detail shop close you, who does hack work and charges more then you. All those customers will be running to you after they see what the other shop has done to their cars.

Very true man. Funny thing is...this particular detail shop, was literally one of the first detail shops to open up in this area and be successful. YEARS ago. Probably more than 20 years go.

I've always known that they do hack jobs...cause I've fixed TONS of them for people. But, this one....this one takes the cake, haha.

But hey...like you said, it's great for business. But, the detailer in me would almost rather just not see any detailer perform this way, lol.
