I know I'm new but I need to rant. I'm pissed to high heaven right now and could use some advice, or just some people to listen. I had some damage on my hood that looks like this

After speaking to a detailer and seeing some feedback from Mike on here I opted to have the hood repainted. Brief history of me; I have been in the military 10 years and started out painting planes only to find out that I am allergic to epoxy so I can't paint.

So I take it to the this shop to have it re-sprayed because the guy said he would do it for $200 and provide a lifetime warranty on the work with OEM paint. So I think sweet. Take it down, drop it off for two days. Go to pick it up, and it looks pretty much exactly the same. Guy tries to tell me that there is a defect in the metal and that the only way to fix it is to change the hood. From looking at it I can tell no paint work was done. My assumption is that the guy wet sanded (there was white residue all over it) enough to get the scratches to go away, only they came back. He claims that he sanded all the way down, re-sprayed and re-cleared it in an hour and half before I got there. There is no freaking way!! He then claimed he had an "extra" hood that just so happens was the exact same as mine (2006 BMW) and offered to "give it to me" and spray it to make it right. What pissed me off even more than that was that now I have scratches all over both fenders that were not there before. A couple of which are deep enough to hang your fingernail on!! He said, "Oh my belt buckle must have rubbed it when I was painting, they are superficial and should buff out"!! Why the hell would you be leaning over a car painting with your flippin belt buckle!!! Needless to say I didn't pay a dime and left there pronto. Part of me wants to take it back to make him fix everything, and part of me wants to stay three states away. I'm so pissed right now. Other than the clear on the hood my car was flawless with only swirl marks needing to be removed. What do you guys think I should do?

I should also mention that I hosed it off and you can clearly see that the center section of the hood where the defects were has no wax, while the outer edges of the hood still bead up from the wax that was on it. I can't stand shady ass people, and this guy came highly recommended and his shop has had really good reviews.

just curious..Is the name of your body shop called "Joes bar and grill" ?

:buffing:

It might as well have been. At least then I could have had some beer while he was screwing me.

I would stay FAR away from that shop. (I can't stand it.... What was the name of the shop?) If he is that irresponsible, he will just make matters worse. You don't want someone like that working on your car. BTW. The defective metal comment was BS too. But you already knew that.

This guy was a douche nozzle. I knew he was blowing smoke but I just wanted to see how he would try and sell it. So I asked "what about a skim coat of bondo?" His reply " no it's a factor defect it will show through that". Apparently I had stupid on my forehead today!!

And the name for those asking was J&J Autowerks in Hawaii. Douche nozzel.

dont go back you didnt pay anything. Just go to a new place done as for the stuff on the fender see if when they fix the hood if they will fix that also.the paint will be in the gun alreadyany way know big deal for them.

It's your decision. If he offers to fix it for a discount rate maybe you should take him up on the offer. Plus he has to have insurance if there is undue damage to your vehicle. But if your life would be better without the hassle i see leave the bad experience behind you.

There is a lot of great advise here and if were me I'd be following it....:props:

Before you leave the next shop ask the tech to get into detail how he'll approach this and what his corrective action will be.

Not to sound like a "pro" or give advice but,
I would report this immediately, BBB or what ever you have.
Even Small claims, even so, you may be legally allowed to take it elsewhere have it repaired and bill it back to him.
No "Metal Defect would cause this. He would not know if the metal was defective unless he had stripped down to bare metal and reworked it back up where he would have found that the body filler was not adhering ( sure!) or that the paint he had reapplied was not adhering to the filler (sure!again)
HE was shady and did a shody job

please read through these links, your laws read different than mine do, however I hope they help

Caveat emptor

Hackers can be found everywhere. He should be working at the Dole Pineapple Plantation instead of detailing cars.:argue:

Wow that is sad! If he didnt want to do the job why didnt he just say so, instead of lying and and trying to get more out of you? How can people lie to others like that without knowing anything about that person, they could be experts in the field and completely see through the lies? Sticking with the truth is always good for you and your customers, period!

no work, no$
Good remarks pass through 2, negative pass through 10
Karma will get him!
Seriously though, he owes you for putting his buckle against your car and brushing it off.
I have done body work, on lots of cars. Classics, hotrods, euro imports and bikes ( motor and mountain) if I banged it up I owe you to repair it there on the spot.
If you noticed it and I didnt, I would feel like a dumbass who lost a
HE admitted to sratching your car, get HIM to fix that, and not by him, then get the rest done elsewhere.

judge judy pays off here

No big deal? Really? No big deal to wet sand it clean it with wax and grease remover tape it up remove any mud flaps emblems or mouldings drop the edge of the front bumper mask it all off then cover the fender spray the hood then uncover it to blend it out then clear the whole panel only to put it all back together when its done yea no biggie right..

Depending on the materials they use it might be worth respraying the whole front for a perfect match..

That's easy 320 grit on hard block dry cross cut it with the hood off the car then shoot a tinted sealer on it as a barrier coat reinstall and scuff hood hit fenders with 1200 finish prep spray base then blend fenders out and clear all three panels.. if it were here it would be 400 bucks and delivered in 3 hours..
