So on the sides of a couple spokes on 1 of my rims it always looks like its dirty! I have tried clay and magic earaser and that only took a little off, but didn't make any visual difference. I tried Sonax for the the first time today and that did not take it off either! I hate it. My rims are BMW OEM painted clear-coated. I cant get this stuff off. What do I do?

I would recommend using IronX being that you already attempted to clean your wheels with clay.

Yeah but Sonax removes the iron particles from brake dust. Why would I buy IronX if Sonax will do the same and is targeted for brake dust. This stuff is like embedded in the clear coat and looks almost like pitting. I will try to get a picture of it tonight

clean with rim cleaner, and then try a little paint polish since the wheels appear coated.

Quite frankly, my experience with BMW wheels is the clear coat is very fragile. I've owned 3 BMWS - each of the wheels had clear coat failure. My advice would be do not use anything too aggressive - or you are likely to make it worse in the long run. I don't think wheel cleaners will help.

I would try a medium paint polish on a buffer cone on a drill. I just used this on my roof rack rails and it works well. If it doesn't come off with that, its likely embedded in the clear coat (melted in?) and best left alone. A refinish may be your only option if your seeking perfection, that's what I did - followed by OptiCoat.

So is this clear coat failure? If so is it covered under the wheel and tire warranty? Probably isn't, but its worth asking

Powder coat them black, won't notice brake dust as much lol.

I would try Meg's wheel brightner, just use as directed. Get a tooth brush to agitate between spokes.

It's not clear coat failure from what I can see, it just looks like embedded brake dust. And no, CC failure on BMW wheels won't be covered under warranty. They may have a mobile guy "fix" them. But they wouldn't replace mine. I paid 1k to have them properly powder coated.

The BMW factory brake pads are the culprit. I switched to low dust pads.

your rims do not look that bad......I will say Iron-x will clean them up at this point. whats there is heavy deposits that clay will not touch without some serious elbow grease.

Give Iron-x a try then as Killr said do a little polishing and then seal them up with something so the next go round its easy as pie!

for some real dirty stuff I agree with Rsurfer Megs Wheel Brightner then a dose of Iron-x will do it.

I just did Total Swirl remover and it got me no where. Its not the whole rim, but just 3-4 spokes. So wheel brightener will take it off for sure?

e

I would use Iron-x first.......it will dissovle the particals from the brake pads, which is what you are seeing IMHO from your pics.

Megs Wheel Brightner is a great product but is very caustic and will not get all of it because of the time you spray and agitate and the need for rinse.

you can Leave Iron-x on longer.....make sense? (just don't let it dry on the wheels)

I read on a E90post that some guy recommended using lighter fluid on a rag on just that spot to take it off. I have also heard oven cleaner for spots like this

Also, IronX spray or paste?

I keep both on the shelf.......sometimes the paste you can keep moving around with A hint of h2o to keep it acctivated without drying on the rim.

If the rims are real bad a few applications may be in order.
