About a week ago I received my Lake Country Changeable Backing Plate System for the Flex 3401 VRG after it was on backorder for awhile. Tonight while buffing my car, this happens:

No wobbling, no warning, just snap! The part that came off is exactly where it was when it happened. I thought they resolved is issue? I was even using the shims the package said to use with the 6" BP...

That stinks. Shims? I have (2) of these systems bought about a year apart and neither of mine came with shims.

Hopefully it's just a fluke, but this has happened before with the older ones. My question is, why do they have to make it changeable? Why can't they just offer two different single-piece plates?

I'm sure AG and/or LC will take care of it.

How tight did you have the screw? Failure might be a little more likely there if you strong-arm the screw crazy tight.

Got it through Autopia, but I'm sure they will take care of it just as well as AG would since they're both PBMG. Would have gone through AG, but they were out of stock at the time.

The screw was snug, but by no means strong armed or overly tight. I doubt little 150 lbs me could even get it crazy-tight... :)

Yep, apparently it's a newer version. No instructions, but it says on the plastic bag that they are for use with the 6" plate only.

Hmm, thanks for the picture. I know I had seen one of the older plates fail, but I had only heard of one incident. I'd like to know what the shims are for and where to get them if they are needed. Hopefully Eric from LC will chime in on this if he sees the thread. I'm sure PBMA will take care of you.

Thanks, I have absolutely no concerns that they won't take care of it.

Hopefully mine was just a fluke... It's clear LC has done a lot to try and resolve the issue with the earlier version, so I definitely give them props.

This has happened to me twice. I broke two of the 6" backing plates. They sent me a third about 3 months ago and I haven't used it because I'm afraid to break the third one and have the BP damage a vehicle. Pisses me off greatly. Apparently they have sent me another old one, which i'm 100% positive it'll fail, because I do not have the shims you pictured. :(

I wonder if it had anything to do with the wool pads? I have the bp system and have really only used the hybrid foam pads and have not had any issues in almost a year of use. I also don't have those different washers. Only 1 washer and nothing has givin me any issues.

Any issues with the backing plate should be directed to me here at the factory. [email protected]. I have tested the plate system with the shims and have had no issues.

I can't imagine it would being that its the hybrid wool pad I was using.

Great example of a product manufacturer stepping up to address concerns (and rectify them if necessary) about one of their products. :applause:
