Hello. I have a bit of a conundrum here that I wanted to run across you. Last year I purchased a V6 2010 Camaro and it's a great car. Obviously I chose the V6 route to cut down the cost. Well, a year later I still love the car but I feel as though I sold myself short. Now I want the V8. The problem is that I have no cash to put down on the a V8. The Kelly Blue Book trade-in value is a couple grand more than what I currently owe on the car, so assuming the dealership gives me a good trade I should come out ahead (well, not really, I put $8500 down on the car so technically I'd be down about $6500, but oh well). Anyhow, the dealership told me that, depending upon my credit, they could take the loan out to about 10 years in order to lower the monthly payment to around what I'm paying now for my V6 Camaro. I currently owe around 23 grand on my car and the V8 will run around 40 grand with tax and title. Minus the 1-2 grand I would get on the trade-in, I would be going from a debt of 23 grand with 6 years left to pay to about 39-40 grand with 10 years left to pay and almost certainly a higher APR. I know it wouldn't be the smartest financial move, but I want the V8 so badly I can taste it. I'm certainly not a rich man, just a run of the mill I.T guy. So what is a guy to do, make a foolish financial decision for something that would make me really happy, or suck it up and save up the cash for a year or two? I'm not the most patient man in the world. I don't know, I guess I should have just got the 2SS Camaro last year.
Your gonna see alot smaller motors and V8's are going to be taxed heavily or removed as CAFE standards increase to meet the new laws. Also gas aint getting cheaper and soon could be back to 4 per gallon.
Can't smoke anywhere anymore, pretty soon we won't be able to drive muscle cars anymore. It's a shame.
They put another big tax on tanning salons as well. Not that that particular tax will directly affect me since I would have nothing to do with one but there is no doubt it is a crime for the goverment to steal money from businesses. The tanning salons were an easy target for them. Not sure if they realized they would be putting a lot of businesses owned by woman into financial trouble....
I believe this was well deserved. When it finally became known that cigarettes can lead to lung cancer many of the individuals needing medical care for the after affects of thier choice were on medicare and the government was footing the bill for it. This will likely repeat itself. Its funny people dont seem to care if a tobacco company were to go out of business, but man a tanning salon which is also in a business that repeated use of that businesss product/ service significantly increases thier customers chance for cancer and it is a tragedy. Just my0.02
I completely understand and respect your point. The govermnent (my income taxes) shouldn't be paying for the choices people make with their health. I completely agree and don't think anybody could argue that.
Where the complex issue lies for me is whether or not the company they bought said product from should be paying for it. No matter what anybody ever told me I would know that inhaling smoke into my blood and lungs isn't good for me and that is my choice. Same with tanning, same with cell phones, etc, etc. Where do you draw the line. The gas fumes you inhale driving down the road. The paint fumes you inhale when painting. The chemicals in the water. The poison in the food we buy.
There is an argument to be made on both sides of this. Case by case, the argument can be a little stronger on one side or the other depending on a lot of things like false advertising. I just think that personal choice and responsibility is something that gets lost a lot these days. If I decide to smoke it sucks but is my responsibility and you shouldn't pay for it with your taxes and the company that I bought it from shouldn't pay for it unless they forced me to do it.
