Can you see a difference? - 1934 Chevy Coupe

I can see a slight difference -- but I had to look hard.

In the before picture there is a bit of a "glow" effect seen around the reflection of the overhead lights.

In the after the glow is almost complety gone, and the reflection is cleaner. However, in the after picture, the reflections from the left side of the hood appear to have some problems. Not sure where that is coming from. Perhaps the left side has not been polished yet?

yup the reflection is definitely sharper in the polished side; can't really see any little particles that would get removed by claying, but the reflection definitely has a haze around it on the left side.

Possibly it's a 50/50 shot. Left side is unpolished, right side is polished, hencewhy the left side is still hazy when seen in the polished picture

It would help if both pictures were from same angle but in 1st picture the colour looks more hazy than what it looks in 2nd

Yes. The before side has some hazing while the clayed and polishes side has a crisp reflection.

I think driver's side looks better than passenger's in both pics.

Definitely a difference. Although extremely slight. Around the edge of the light in the first photo there is a slight smudginess although that could just be grease that is actually making a smudge.

Nope...can't see any difference!!

EDIT: Wiat a minute...I found them!

There's a slight haze around the light on the left side of the hood before.
Because of the angle and position, there's no way to compare the after.

It would help if both pictures were from same angle but in 1st picture the colour looks more hazy than what it looks in 2nd

In order to get the overhead florescent lights in the position you see them in on each have of the hood I had to stand in different places and lean just the right way.

To get the same angle using the same "fixed" light overhead I would have to move the coupe and getting the same angle in the time frame didn't qualify as important enough to move the coupe. I rarely, if ever move a car for a shot, in fact it's usually more important to not move a car when taking before and after shots to keep as many factors as possible the same.

"It's a TRAP!"

Nah... I'm not that way...

The finish wasn't horrible to start with, the owner said he paid $3000.00 for the paint job about 10 years ago. The coupe is from Wyoming and was pretty much rust free it actually has all the original wood still in the inside.

We used this car on our TV show and on TV shows you only have time to work on a small portion of the car. So ever since we filmed the segment with the car the owner's been driving it around with a lower panel in the rear of the car that has one shiny spot in the middle of the panel and sanding marks on the outside of the panel.

Today our schedules aligned and he brought the car in and I finished removing the sanding marks from the entire panel.

Then I gave him my Detailing 101 class in 20 minutes on the passenger side of the hood including,

  • Wiping clean
  • The Baggie Test
  • Claying - Owner never clayed before
  • Major Correction Step by machine (It's in my how-to book)
  • Minor Correction or Polishing Step by machine (also in the book)
  • Then we sealed the paint

While there's not a HUGE before and after difference in the pictures, in person the difference is day and night both visually and physically.

The paint on this car feel like 80 grit sandpaper. When we clayed it there was no visual appearance of anything coming off the paint. My guess is there is clear overspray paint over the entire exterior, thus the reason we're not seeing anything on the clay.

:)

I highly doubt Mike is trying to trick anyone here. He's just showing the difference after claying and polishing, and it's very noticeable.

EDIT: Mike and I must have posted at almost identical times.
