This client drove down from Johannesburg (about 400 miles) to me to get his car detailed. He dropped the car off with me just before 8 on a cold, wet and windy Saturday morning and I then took a few before pictures while allowing the wheels etc to cool down sufficiently.

I then got to work cleaning the wheels and the arches.

Tires sprayed with Meguiars All Wheel and Tire Cleaner

I then scrubbed it with a Mothers Tire Cleaning Brush and rinsed clean

The wheels were then cleaned using Daytona Wheel Brush and various other smaller brushes
IMG_0676_zps51631859.jpg

And rinsed clean

I then removed all the tar spots using Autofinesse Oblitarate before removing the iron contamination

The arches were cleaned using Cyclo CM30 APC @3:1 with a Mothers Fender Well Brush and later dressed with Chemical Guys Care Bones. The rims were then clayed using Clay Magic Blue Clay.

On Sunday I used Meguiars Cleaner Wax on a Mothers Polishing Ball to give them a light polish (they could definitely do with a more thorough polish but that was not in the scope of the detail), sealed them with Collinite 845 and dressed the tires using Optibond Tire Gel.

I then cleaned the boot and door shuts, inside the petrol flap, around the badges, in all the seams etc using Cyclo CM30 APC @ 3:1 with various brushes.

The car was then pre-foamed using a mix of maxi-suds and Cyclo CM30 APC and then given a full 2BM wash using Cyclo Polymer Car Wash

On Friday before leaving JHB the owner joked with me that he would be bringing some JHB bugs and tar down for me... well the irony is that when I began the decontamination process by removing the tar deposits using Autofiness Oblitarate, there was less tar than I see on most of the cars I do.... BUT there were a lot of iron deposits.

To put this into perspective, the owners's current regime includes quarterly claying of the car due to the volume of contamination the car is exposed to at his workplace, but even so a lot of iron came off the paint, and there was still a lot to clay off thereafter, which I did for the remainder of Saturday using Clay Magic Blue Clay.

Sunday morning I knocked out some test spots and settle on Menzerna FG400 on Orange LC CCS Pads for the paint and a combo of Menzerna PF2500 on White LC CCS Pads / Menzerna SF4000 on Black LC CCS Pads for the B pillars and taillights, and spent the rest of the day correcting / polishing.

The only photos I took during the process

Monday was spent cleaning/claying the glass surfaces (Autoglym Fast Glass), vacuuming the interior and wiping down the interior surfaces, dressing all the exterior plastic trim using Smartwax Smartdressing and then laying down 2 coats of Collinite 845.

Unfortunately due to prior commitments I was not left with much time to take any decent after shots, besides the few below which are a combination of my DSLR and Cell phone pics....

Thank you very much:dblthumb2:

Great work! I like the reflection shots. I just worked on a GTI last weekend and also used FG400 and LC orange pads; I liked the working time of the polish.

Great turnaround again Lawrence . Always a pleasure to look at your threads .

Thanks. Yeah FG400 is a great compound. I did notice though at higher speeds on a DA, dusting becomes evident and so tend not to use it any higher than speed 5 but I got a tip from Smack on the forum to try working it at around speed 3 (almost seems counter intuitive for a compound) and I am yet to try this, but based on the recommended speed settings printed on the bottle, it would seem he is correct.

So the next time I use the product I am going to give it a try.

Outstanding work, as always, Lawrence!

What part of SA are you in? I was there in 2008-2009, loved the country. Amazing job by the way.

Thanks.

I am in Durban which is on the East Coast of South Africa, where we enjoy the most amazing weather.... admittedly summers can get rather warm with average temps approaching 40 degrees C , but winters are wonderful never really dipping below the 18 degrees C.

What part of the country were you in when you were here?

I was there for 24 days. Flew into Joberg, stayed in Benoni.

Then drove through the Karoo down to Sedgefield. Stayed there through Christmas.

Then over to Cape Town/Simonstown for new years.

Over to Franschoke(sp) for a little wine. Then back to Sedgefield. Then onto Ado Elephant Preserve, then back to Joberg and then back to the US.

Best vacation/holiday I've ever had.

So nice to hear you enjoyed your stay over here:xyxthumbs:.
Was it your first time over here? And did the reality of our country differ to the perception you had of it before coming over.... in other words were you surprised that the Elephants weren't roaming wildly in the street but were in fact in a protected sanctuary?

If ever you decide to come back for another visit, check out an area called Sabie in the province of Mpumalanga. I spent a week of my honeymoon up there and it some of the most beautiful country in the world....
