Finally received my Optimum Opti-Coat in the mail. I'm picking up my new company car (2010 Ford Fusion) and plan on testing this product in multiple ways.
*1/2 the car (paint/glass/trim/wheels) will be coated for comparison purposes (gloss/swirls/beading)
*Wet sand as much Orange Peel from the entire factory Hood as possible (UV protection test ala heat)
*Nothing but Dawn dishwashing detergent will be used to wash with on a bi-monthly basis
*Parked Outside (S. Florida)

You're gonna wet sand your company car?!!!

Seriously, how did you get a hold of the Opti-Coat? Is Opti-Coat available now? How can I get some?

Wet sand and Dawn liquid? Me thinks you should set fire to the other 1/2 for a real comparison for the product... :xyxthumbs:

It says it has a "strong ammonia odor". If thats the case then I don't want it......unless it last for 5 years.....lol yuck.

Smell it.....I dare ya!:dblthumb2:

Yeah, a true WOPO product. Wipe on pass out...

If it stands up to that regimen - no detailer's will want it. They're customers would only come back 1 time a year. :D

Say, I saw you live in Warren?? I worked there a very, very long time ago at Holley carburetor (when it was Holley Carburetor, a Division of Colt Industries). Was just off 8 Mile Line road............is the plant still there (or the building at least)?? They are based out of their other plant in Bowling Green, KY now.

Just curious.......had an interesting time when I was there. Given it's been so long, I'm sure it's all together different now.

See ya.

Its a coating best used by professionals. I think David is setting out to test its durability claims of three years. I cannot wait to see/hear results.

:iagree: That makes 2 of us. I'm still on the sorta-kinda-semi-sceptic side of the fence for now. I trust Dr. G and his ability to create revolutionary products & look forward to taking a hands-on role with this. Time will only tell......

Yes I do live in Warren, 9 1/2 mile and Dequindre. Not sure if the building is still standing or not I recall it being in the 8 mile Hoover area. I think they have been out of that building for a good 20 years. Colt did have facilities in Warren at 9 mile Hoover area until about ten years ago. Warren is in very bad shape as a result of declining automotive activity, actually going down hill for about the last 5 years. Actual unemployment in this area is about 20% adding those not collecting benefits brings it to about 40%. Be glad you are elsewhere.

Someone know if this product is going to be available for non professional detailers?

Yup, 9 Mile Line Road (I think) and Hoover, right around that intersection (.....after looking on the web , the address was 11955 E. Nine Mile Road....just east of Hoover)........used to drive those few miles from Saint Clair Shores to Warren every day. Just looking at a map of SCS to figure out the street I lived on. Seems like it was between 8 and 9 Mile Roads. Not surprised that the facility was sold/taken over. The Bowling Green facility was primarily mfg. when I was there. Undoubtedly newer, easier to relocate there and undoubtedly, lower labor costs. Such a shame......Holley was such an icon of the industry. They now have a number of other brands in their portfolio, but an entirely different company today with direct injection/fuel injection systems.

Thx. for the info. Hope that area and the automotive business comes back. The US needs Detroit and all the related industries. While I only worked in the business for a short while (perhaps fortuitous) I always thought it would have been an exciting career for me.

See ya.

I assume that this is a sealant, how much did it cost? was it easy to apply? who sells it? any info would be nice.

It was designed by Optimum Products as a coating (not a sealant) and said to add to a cars paint or clearcoating by essentially adding additional layer. It will only be sold to professionals, and a waiver is signed to purchase it. I doubt this version will lead to hobbist use, but over time its technology could be used on other products.

Thank you for the swift reply, I did a google search this morning after I asked here. I should have just done the google search first.:xyxthumbs:

Joe from superior shine detailed my 03 z06 when I had it, and put a coat of opti-coat on it. This was back in June, and I ended up selling the car soon after. Didn't get a chance to see long term durability, so I can't really comment on it. Gave a nice gloss, though.
