Car DECISIONS!!! HELP!!!

i think you should consider the newer 335 verts and audi's vert offerings. the A5/S5 are great cars. Benz verts are small or ridiculously expensive. the SLK is tiny, the SL is expensive.

I love the new A5's too... but alas, they are too pricey :( And I don't think I will much luck with a used A5 as they just came out in the last year or two, right? I'm probably looking at over 40 used.... where a new 5.0 is 34ish... NEW :)

they have been out for several years. Although i think the verts may be newer.

Everyone here seems pretty terrified of used cars.

Why? ive owned several cars with over 100,000 miles. In fact id rather own them then. because the car was 1/4 of the price of a CPO car and never had any problems

if i were you id keep the G35, and get something that you like used. it doesnt need to have a warranty. just use it less. people get so afraid that if they buy a used car its going to blow up and catch fire. that never happens, if anything you spend $700 putting new belts on around 80,000 miles.

Get the stang! Ford has stepped it up in the pony's department. How about 543/521 on just 6psi?

I'm going to vote again then!

1 vote for either the stang or G Im the MAN

Keep the Infinity, Mustangs are a dime a dozen.

To a degree, you are correct. Thats one thing that turned me off of them for some time was that there were infinite "special editions", so much so that in my mind nothing was special about the car. The new 5.0 has changed that (could be biased cause I have one) in my opinion. This new 5.0 has gotten more compliments than any of my previous cars, from the guys at autozone to my pharmacist, no one has ever complimented this car like the others. What really gets the attention is that "5.0" decal on the side, all of the comments have included "how do you like that new 5.0, or does that really have a 5.0, 5.0 this and that......"
Another thing that makes me think these aren't so "dime a dozen" anymore, is well, to me they are pretty freaking expensive. If you get one optioned out your spending upper 30's. Plus, a car kind of loses that effect of being the shiny new car after a few years obviously cause newer and cooler things have come out since then.
Its truly a matter of what your preference is. If its sports car, the mustang I think stands out from the rest, based on your mentioned alternatives. If its "prestige" or "nice car" factor your going for, not as large a group of people are going to say, "hey thats a nice 5-6 year old BMW you have there." If the Mustang is a 2010 model, I say its not much of an issue, you go with a bmw or the g35, but the 2011 is an all new animal.
As far as bang for the buck, you aren't going to find as good an overall car as the new Mustangs.

except none of the cars affected are what he is looking at.

True, Mustangs are enthusiast vehicles, but they are also far more common. the problem with the mustang is sure its fast and cool and all, but it looks just like the other mustangs. Sure it might have bigger wheels and such but to an untrained eye. its just a mustang.

The M3 on the other hand, has bulging fenders and a hood. Wider track, bigger wheels, bigger brakes, different bumpers front and rear. its just a much more aggressive looking vehicle imo.

That said, there are alot of vehicles currently that are alot of fun. One of my favorite convertibles to date is the S2000. its quick, looks good and is reliable. not to mention they are a blast to drive. But Ive been racing since i was 7 years old. So my opinion on a drivers vehicle is a bit different.

I have a 2004 FX35 which I have owned since new. I wanted to trade it and get something different. I have never, ever enjoyed a car more than I have enjoyed my Infiniti! But, after almost 7 years, I wanted a change and a new FX just didn't seem to do it for me. I still get looks in the FX to this day. Now I think a lot of that has to do with how I keep it looking. I am sure your G is the same. Whatever car you choose will probably get looks just by the fact that you keep it looking amazing. The snob factor weighed on my mind too as to my replacement to the FX. What did I end up getting? I've ordered a 2011 Lincoln MKX. I am very excited to drive this techno weenie's delight. Ford is on its game these days I think. I will also add that years ago I owned a used 7 series that cost me nothing but continuous gobs of money. They're probably better now, but I will never own one again.
Make your choice on what will make you smile every time you get behind the wheel. Don't pay attention to your wife's "Muscle car" comments. If it gets your blood boiling, that's all that should matter. Make sure you post up pics of your final decision.

Stay with Jap... I'm sure I'll get a bad rep for this one... but here it goes.

American: Engines designed to last a lifetime, trans meant to last until you pull off the lot.

German: Beautiful, same performance and aggresive styling as the stang... however (mechanical gremlins galore and the clutches go faster than you can imagine, also cheap trim)

That's just my opinion though. Want something similar in price range, better looking than both, while outperforming them both? I'd take a gander at the Genesis 4 door. Still faster and handles better, same price range.

Thank you for all the inputs guys. Man, I love this forum... if y'all are not helping me out with tips and tricks for buffing, it's helping me out with my car dilemma.

For those of you who posted that I test drive a 5.0 and an M3, I already have. The 5.0 definitely put a smile on my face. Wife and I test drove the coupe and vert back to back. That power is intoxicating. I remember my wife's comment on the 5.0..."Wow, I am surprised. This thing rides really nice." After that, I punched and she clenched on for dear life. :) My only worry about the 5.0 is that it's a "muscle" car... my wife comments on that everytime. "It doesn't look as nice as your G"..or..."Do you really want a muscle car?" So I find myself thinking twice all the time. Besides that, the 5.0 may have a tendency to be "common"...having other people have the same car as me.

As far as the BMW is concerned. It rode really nice too (of course, it's a bimmer). But it doesn't have as much power as the 5.0. But it's more refined. It doesn't look as good as the G, in my opinion... it's more "common" too, but not to the extent of the 5.0. Then, it's used :( with possibly more miles than my G... then also the maintenance costs :( But it rides like a dream.

The M3 would be like a scalpel. The 5.0 a blunt hammer (a BIG hammer). The G would be like a very sharp kitchen knife (in between the 2 I think).

As far as affording it... no worries. With the trade in value of the G, I plan on paying the whole thing in one swoop... no loan.

sigh... decisions decisions... I should have tallied how many votes you guys have all said. So far, I think the 5.0 is winning by a hair, followed by keeping the G :)

I think that your post here says a lot, and it tells me that the best decision would probably be to keep your G35. It is a great car in great condition. If I'm going to be buying a new vehicle, I want to be darn sure that there is no doubt in my mind that I *really* want (need?) to do this.

If you are really considering keeping your current car, that's exactly what I would do, and wait until something else comes along that you simply MUST HAVE! I don't get that feeling from you now with regard to either the Mustang or the M3.

When you get to the point that all you can do is think about a certain car, and you join an internet forum dedicated to that car, and you dream about that car night after night and can't get it out of your mind....then you are ready to take the plunge!

This is how it has been for me for more than 25 years now.

Having said all that, I am a driver who prefers handling above all else. Of course a car that handles like it is on rails won't be all that fun if it is a dog. But that isn't the case with the M3, even though it won't be as fast as the Mustang.

Do the new Mustangs *still* have the live rear axle?

I've never driven a Mustang that handled very well. <flame suit on>

maybe look into an elise. they generally have low miles are in the same price range as the others and are probably the most exciting car on the road.

Also if your looking for something unique then buy the 5.0 from a certified Ford Racing Dealership. Get additional exterior and motor mods done to the vehicle to make it stand out.

uhhhhhhh, were you joking about the Genesis? new 5.0 will run circles around it.
0-60 genesis 5.5 (motortrend)
0-60 5.0 is 4.3 (motortrend)

handling.......really?

When did they add back seats to the Elise?!!?! ;)

....

Anyways, here's my dilemma... I am debating trading her in for a convertible. Wife and I always wanted one. And I want one with a backseat so I can bring the kid/s. I want something with power, looks, and relatively easy to maintain.

Since when 0-60 the criteria for a great car?

Hi guys... thanks again for all the posts. I have enjoyed reading every single one of them. To keep things straight, I tallied your votes thus far:
Keep em coming!!! :)
Stang 5.0 = 13 votes
G = 7 votes
BMW M3 = 2 votes

I didn't know it was that overwhelming!!! I read that some of the cons to the 5.0 are that it's common. It's true it is... although in Grabber Blue or Race Red it stands out a bit. Also, I must say when I test drove it, it did make me smile when I punched it. It isn't as refined as my G... but I wonder if that's ok now for a change.
