carpro eraser vs menzerna top inspection

Eraser is great if you're using CarPro products. Other than that, I'm hesitant to use it because CarPro openly admits that it leaves something behind for anti static. This concerns me if doing a wipe down prior to using non CarPro LSP's. I may try top inspection

What ever happened to Optimums Prep wipedown product??? Did it ever come out ???

Wow I did not know that. Hopefully my Opti-Coat 2.0 will bond. I did a double eraser wipedown prior to application.

I didn't care for the menz at all . way too grabby for me and its expensive for the amount you get . it could have been the towel I used ? sprayed too much or not enough ? idk . eraser , I like that, no issues . I mostly use Kleen Strip - prep all . about $12 for a gallon .

I think Chad did some testing with GTechniq coatings after wiping down with Eraser. He said there didn't seem to be any issues, so I think you should be fine. I really like Eraser for inspecting results.

You should really ready my quote in regards to this.

Went to Opticoat (pro version) a GT-R and Chrysler 300 this weekend. The GT-R was fine, had 2300 miles so it wasn't a huge ordeal. The 300 had some of the softest paints I've dealt with, even more so than the GT-R. After 4 or 5 different combinations, the ONLY thing that was working on correcting the finish (wasn't terrible but not great) was M205 and a black LC foam pad. Finished it down near perfect.

Anyways, after cleaning and prepping with Car Pro eraser I went to apply the opticoat. What I noticed was the coating was flashing ALMOST instantly to the point where it was leaving streaking and not self leveling all that well. I hadn't run into this on the GT-R so I was veryyyy baffled. Not all the panels were like this but about 3 or 4 so I had to polish it off and reapply but this time I immediately wiped softly after applying and that seemed to do the trick. VERY frustrating and made me re-think a couple of things and my process. I knew M205 had some tricky oils in it but I wanted to give Dr. G a call and discuss a few different things with the paint system and the products used.

He explained that with M205 having the agents inside and being pretty much an anomaly to a lot of other polishes, Eraser wasn't fully cleaning the surface of the polishing oils. I had done two wipe downs so this wasn't a great feeling. It was recommended that use OPC to clean the surface OR a stripping wash and try it that way. Dr. G explained that since some of the oils were remaining it was causing the instant flash/streaking and OPC would fix that.

I wanted to share my experience with others because I hadn't run into this before with 2.0 and M205 previously, so knowing the concentrate in the Pro version was much stronger, it made me a little worry some. Again, I had tried a few different combinations that were correcting, but were marring pretty badly. And anything that I tried to follow up with wasn't clearing it up. This is a perfect example of a test panel and thankfully I was able to get it knocked out.

Yes both products perform similar functions, that is the ability to remove polishing oils.

What do you mean which one would you use after claying? Clay bar doesnt remove or hide swirls so why would you use any of these? For what purpose?

Anyhow, I would recommend you get either product to inspect your work after polishing. They remove polishing oils to make sure you are actually removing defects, not masking them with polish residue.

I'm currently using Griot's Pre-Wax Clenzer. I get a big 35oz bottle for $9.99 instead of 16oz of Menzerna for $19.99. These products dont add any aditional benefits to the paint other than to inspect your work, so choose wisely.

:iagree: I use menz Top Inspection all the time I have never noticed it grabbing will using it. It really comes down to what you like.

No problem at all! I've use Earser for both Opti-Guard, and Opti-Coat many times in the past with absolutely no issues!

Finally read Mikes book and i thought the ipa wipe was just for the test spot. I still have yet to do any polishing, just getting my ducks in a row. So youd recommend an ipa to cleanse all the way around the vehicle?

I don't think this has been answered. After polishing you want to use an IPA wipedown or something similar. Compounds/polishes can have a filling effect due to the chemicals that transport the abrasives. Another reason is to make sure all the polish/compound is off the panel. Wax/sealant/permanent coating are designed to adhere to clear coat, not a polish or compound. You will see better performance out of your LSP.

Some people, myself included, will use a IPA wipedown after the compounding and polishing step. I do this to make sure what I am seeing is really the condition of the finish.

I use Eraser and like it. I only have IPA to compare it too. IPA seems to work great on hard clears, softer clears I've had some marring problems even with good MF. Eraser seems to come off easier.

Cool. Where do you buy it from?

o'reilleys auto parts store , I had to ask at the counter . I'm not sure if other auto parts stores can get it . I found DuPont brand also but it's like 30-40 a gallon .

I avoid using IPA as it can make the paint swell. Eraser is 30-50% IPA. There is a thread on this. I use Clean Strip Prep All or mineral spirits.

Eraser is slightly less than 30% IPA, a small percentage of sodium lauryl ether sulfate, DI water, and a splash of another proprietary ingredient.

That's a great practice, I try to do the same as well:xyxthumbs:

I use menz TI and like it. I've also used eraser and it worked just as well for slightly less cost. I ended up sticking with TI because I use Menz compounds and polishes.

After using Eraser I trashed any and all of my IPA's. I never liked the feeling I got using IPA, it felt very grabby against ANY microfiber I used. Eraser lets the MF glide across the paint and I have yet to have any type of streaking or residue left over. I cannot speak for TI though.
