Hello people,

I've been meaning to post a few pictures of cars that aren't often seen over the ditch in the USA for a while & I have finally got a spare minute to do it. :xyxthumbs: I will add to this thread when I think there's something interesting to include too, if there's some interest.

Here we have a couple of utes or "trucks" or I'd say "mini trucks" after what we saw when we were over there.

Holden Colorado.

Ford Ranger.

An earlier Holden Colorado.

Nissan Navara (2016)

Some examples of GMs Australian cousins - Holden.

Holden Monaro, I'm pretty sure you guys get this as a Pontiac GTO?

A few Fords to come . . . tomorrow. :xyxthumbs:

The yellow last car is cool and the first truck would make it a nice mobile rig.

The yellow one is an HSV Maloo. (Holden Special Vehicles) 7.2 V8, two seater ute. Pretty impractical as a ute because of the hard cover but a fun toy for sure.

Thanks for the pics. It's like seeing the "good side" of a Mad Max movie.

Cool thread!!! Some interesting rides there!

Hahaha, yeah - we have a few Mad Max looking cars driving around here sometimes. :xyxthumbs:

I'm with him! ^^^^ Very cool!

Thanks guys. :xyxthumbs:

Very cool Aaryn! Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Don. :xyxthumbs:

When we came over for Jan 2015 Boot Camp class with Mike & Nick I was curious as to what cars we would see & I was surprised more than I thought. I expected to see the American domestic market stuff that we don't see alot of in New Zealand but it was the Japanese makes that surprised us the most. Alot of the Japanese cars we get simply aren't the same as what you have. They're badged the same but the styling is completely different. I thought posting a few pictures of our domestic market cars may be of some interest.

As promised - some Australian Fords . . . . mostly Falcons.

I will keep this up to date when I have something in the shop that I think you guys may find interesting. Please sing out if you would like to see more pictures of anything you see here. Thank you all for looking.

Man those are some very cool looking cars. I haven't seen most of those before. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks mate. :xyxthumbs: The Aussie built cars are soon to stop being produced or are already, so I'm guessing we may get an alternative from over your way in right hand drive like the new Mustangs. Thanks for taking the time to have a look & comment.

Cool looking rides! The first Colorado is pretty sweet!

Thanks Mike. :xyxthumbs: Utes are very popular here, the Ford Ranger seems to be a BIG seller at the moment. The Holden Colorado is nicely styled, I think they are actually a Daewoo just badged as a Holden but then Holden does that with nearly every model apart from the Commodore. What's available in Germany as far as a truck/ute goes Mike? I'd guess VW Amarok may feature? Thanks for chiming in Mike?

I wanted to comment on this thread the other day--I see the Ranchero/El Camino style is still popular down under even if it isn't up here--are those "Maloo's" based on the Monaro?

Also, those Holden sedans, how old are they? The styling is somehow reminiscent of some early-to-mid 70's Chevy/GM but I presume they are unrelated (other than the corporate relationship which I don't even know if that existed at that time).

:xyxthumbs: The Maloo is HSVs (Holden Special Vehicles) version of the standard Holden Commodore ute, kinda like what AMG do to Mercedes or AC Shnitzer for BMW or the likes of the Hellcat version of the Challenger. The Monaro was (don't quote me on this though, I'm far from a Holden expert) just a "normal" Holden. HSVs version of the Monaro was badged as a GTO, these are no longer in production though. The sedan as a "normal" Holden is a Commodore & as an HSV its a Clubsport. These two Maloo's were detailed for a wedding.

Are you meaning these older ones?

Those first two are Holden "Kingswoods", I believe HT series from around 77 & the one below, although modified a bit is about the same era but is a "Statesman".

As I mentioned before - I'm definitely not an expert but if any other Kiwis or Aussies can chime in with any better info, please do. :xyxthumbs: The relationship with GM as far as I know goes way back to the start of Holden in the 30s. Hope I was some what helpful? Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Thanks for the info, those Kingswoods just are very "Chevy-ish", I wonder if some of the old tooling got sent down there.

A couple of earlier Holdens at a charity car show last year. :xyxthumbs:

Very, very cool!!! Man, I love seeing these cars. Thanks Aaryn!!

So...the big question: Holden or Ford? Feed back please

Utes are "compulsory" down under: “a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays”... :xyxthumbs:

Thanks for posting! Ford has been promising a small truck for the USA for a while. There are tons of old Rangers still on the road here with way over 100k miles on the odometer.

My pleasure Paul. :xyxthumbs:

Hahaha, ummm . . . VOLKSWAGEN! :props: Uh, I don't know, Holden v Ford, at the moment with the current range I would have to go with Ford. Hahaha "pigs to market" pig hunting is second nature down here & its common to see a beat up old ute driving around with carpet glued to the bonnet. This is so the dogs have traction whilst standing on the bonnet (hood) when tracking through the scrub. I would say 1 in 3 households have a ute of some description up the driveway. :xyxthumbs:

I really like the latest Ranger & the one before it. Do you get any smaller trucks at all? Hilux? Navara? Amarok?
Thanks for the comments. :xyxthumbs:
