I'm looking at getting a six pack of CCS foam pads to go with the Griot's polisher I'm going to order and I'm trying to figure out what to get to have a good all around set up. I'm thinking about getting:

1 Yellow
1 Orange
2 Non coarse green
1 Blue
1 Red

I'm thinking that's a pretty good mix for mostly what the average jobs look like, plus be able to do some thorough correcting as well. Time to dump this auto zone oribital thing and get serious...

Thoughts?

My best piece of advice to you is to get flat pads instead.

2 orange
2 white
1 blue
1 black

Order that x2 and you will be set for a bit.

+1 on flat pads, more durable then ccs and produce better result + easier to control.

I was wondering about the difference between the flat and the others. It seems like the flats might be easier to clean with the Duo Spur thing.

So if I'm going with flat pads on a six inch plate, which pads do you guys recommend?

I like the HT pads a lot. But what the other guys are trying to tell you is 6 pads each of a different color isn't a good idea. You need at least a couple of each color you're going to use to get through a car.

I've used recently 2 orange and 2 white flat pads on a medium size car with 105/205 combo ... 4 pads p/car is my minimum.

3 orange, 2 white and a red or blue. Later on order more and then include a couple yellow and black. I dont use the green at all.

Last I looked the LC flats were on BOGO. I think 6.5 inch, but, the griots can spin them.

Get 5.5 if you are not taking advantage of the BOGO. You will need a backing plate to accomodate the smaller pads.

Dont use a Duo Spur on your foam pads. IT is for wool pads.

Anyone tried those hydro-tech pads? They make them sound like the next big thing, but almost to good to be true. Opinions?

I think I said I like them a lot. The tangerine pads are fantastic. Some people don't like them because the cyan pads don't seem to last that long, and the HT's in general take a lot longer to dry after washing, and you can have problems if you use them while they are still wet.

Yep, I totally missed your post, my bad. Maybe those are something to try later on after I'm more comfortable with the regular flats. Or, maybe add one in with a six pack to try.

:whs:

If your in a pinch, put them on your dashboard and turn the defrost on full blast

Flip pad every 5 minutes or untill done
;)

I never have any problems with the HT pads the way I use them...although I don't think I've had to use a cyan yet.

If you are buying the 6.5" flat pads in the 6-pack, you can get the HT's for the same price as the regular pads.

Nick, what is the condition of the paint on the car/cars you plan to work on? I am pretty new to this site but the one thing you will notice if you read around enough, is to match the product and pad to the paint you are working. This comes up in all the how to articles and videos. Depending on paint condition, you will see swirl removers used with orange or white pads, polishes used with white or gray pads and wax/sealant applied with a blue pad. How bad of shape is your car in? That and maybe some pictures as well as what swirl remover and glaze you'll be using will help people suggest the correct pads

I'm pretty sure I've got my order all set now. That bogo on the flat pads is quite a deal. I'm going with 2 orange, 2 white, 2 grey plus a tangerine hydro tech. This stuff is going to be for customer vehicles, so I want to have a good assortment for mild oxidation, swirled and lightly scratched paints, plus finishing. If I get something worse than that, I'll add to my stuff accordingly. I've got three vehicles lined up for the near future that all need some light correcting. Thanks for all the input guys!

Order the Surbufs instead of the 7th pad. You won't regret it, I promise ;)
