Ok so my PC's speed control started to go bad about a month ago but i just ignored it because im dumb. At first it wouldnt even turn on in any speed below 4 then eventually it would only work on speed 6. I didnt have many options since this was my money maker it was either fix it or get a GG because i cant afford the flex which is what i really want to upgrade to. I also couldnt afford to leave it at a repair shop for a week. So i opted to fix it myself since i was an electronics tech in the navy. Once i did it i was surprised at how easy the repair was.

Sorry for no pics but my camera was dead i might take it back appart and take a few later.
(Note Please only attempt this if your PC is out of warranty like mine was)

What you need:
1. Speed Control Switch Part No. N059511
I found this at a local repair shop but it can also be ordered online at Delta | Porter-Cable ServiceNet

2. a 3/16" flat head Screw Driver (a regular flat head screw driver is required because those ones with the multiple bits won't fit in one of the screw holes.)

Ok so first off make sure the polisher is unplugged shouldn't have to mention this but you never know.

The are 3 screws in the back half of the polisher where the speed control is located. The are star bit heads but also have a slot in them for a flat head. remove all 3 screws.

Once all three screws are removed seperate the back halves to reveal all the eltronic gizmos.

Carefully pull the speed control out of its little cubby hole. There should be nothing holding it in.

There are three wires that plug into the side of the switch. One by one carefully pull the out of the old switch and put them into the corrosponding hole in the new switch. Push the wires in until they click and wont come out with out any effort.

Put the new switch in the cubby hole molded in the plastic and make sure that the plastic spoon looking thing coming from the main body of the polisher fits over the black switch in in the back half before putting everything back together.

Test the polisher out and you are good to go.

Glad i decided to change the switch because $12 and a about 15mins of time sure beats the heck out of a new $130 polisher

Seems to be a very common problem even on it's predecessor, the first generation 7424...

Yes well i am a little dissappointed in the PC because I am weekend detailler (I do about 5 compounds/ 20 polishes a year/ 60 waxes with the PC - not exactly a big workload) and I have been having trouble with the speed control at just about the time the guarantee expired. The new mcguiar g110v.2 seems like a better machine. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I was looking at a Youtube video of a sise by side demo of the PC and g110v.2 and it made me a believer with the more powerful torque... Is buying the mcguiar a bad move. The flex is just too expensive for the weekend detailler

Although I do not own 1, everyone seems to agree on the Griot's DA. I own the PC, Flex, & Makita. The PC can still be versatile b/c you can attach carpet brushes, never had a problem with my switch ...yet

Good info Trans:props:

elite pro, why is the griot better than comparable da's, the review i saw on the mcguiar said there was improved torque when you applied pressure. Does griot have this feature. The pc does not

From what I've read, that feature is why people like the Griot's

I'm sure you cannot go wrong with either one.

Meguiar's..

I also purchased a Griot's Garage 6" DA over the PC7424XP/Meguiar's G110v2 because of the features. I own the old style PC7424 and these are the few things that I've felt (haven't had time to detail my car yet and gathering items to do so soon), but the GG has less vibrations then the PC.

anyways the biggest reasons:

GG 6" (+25 foot long cord) Price 144.99 (look online) - 149.99 Normal Meguiar's G110v2
GG 6" 7.0 AMP - 4.2 AMP G110v2
GG 6" 850 Watt Motor - 430 Watt Motor G110v2
GG 6" 5.5lbs - 5lbs G110v2
GG 6" Lifetime warranty - One year limited warranty G110v2
http://www.autogeek.net/griots-random-orbital-polisher.html
So yeah that lifetime warranty was the biggest reason and the price. Not only that the reviews of the GG6 has been positive all around with people saying the power of the machine keeps it spinning and never bogs down most of the time. I hear the G110v2 has a mechanical clutch that catches the machine or something something and allows it to keep spinning..however meh.

If and when my old PC7424 gives out I'll probably pick up the G110vX to replace it for the wider varied speed.

It's more of a tachometer generator. (digital speed control)

A guy I recently met around here goes through a DA a month regardless of the brand. 70 cars a week will do that I guess.

When your successful detail shop is based around this auction you can see 70 a week.
