I just have to share with you what I just got for $100, yep i said 100 bucks. It is a GE 1000 watt metal halide (multi- vapor) light...

Cant wait to try it out... just wish the flex would hurry up an get here
 
I plan to build some sort of cart for it similar to this
 
I bought a dozen similar lights when they closed a Costco near me. The ones that I got were 275w each. They take about three minutes to fully warm up. But when they do I have no trouble seeing all the swirls that I missed. :(

That 2K must be incredible. Just remember not to look at it while it is warming up. It puts out a huge amount of UV light during that time.

More like fried if the outer shell on that bulb breaks. The outer shell acts as a UV barrier. The bulb will operate with the outer shell broken away.
 
We have a 450watt metal halide light in our garage. Takes about 5 minutes to warm up, but you can see everything in it's light. You can see it hanging from our ceiling in some of the posts and pictures we put here on AGO.

How many of these would you need in a normal 2 car garage?
 
I gotta figure out how Im gonna wire this baby, especially if its gonna be portable. problem is: is that it needs 277 volt power. from what I have read, the way that voltage is achieved is by taking power from the high leg on 3-phase power and then just neutral and ground. So this could prove to be interesting, just hope I can make it all work...

and when I do I will post up some pics and try to give you guys some idea of the light output of this monster
 
I do believe that is the exact bulb! Cause the one I have says its a "GE MVR1000/U multi vapor lamp"
 
well it was $100 bucks for the shield, bulb, and ballast.

i was startin to wonder though when i seen that price. he was sayin that those bulbs were $250 (just the bulb)

I think i still got a god deal though

You did get a good deal. the reflector, ballast, socket, and cover shield would normally run you about $300.00 if you bought less than 10 units.
