How do you guys clean your pads to keep them in play during the same job ? Or, do you always have back-up pads ?

well its definatly better to have extras. If you wash them you can put it on your pc/rotary and that will get rid of most of the water. Than just wipe it with a towel and mayb even step on it with a towel on it and that will make it dry enough to use.

If you have the backing plate type, most have sets of different colors to use while one sits in a solution to clean out the gunk. I have Edge pads and use one side for one side of the vehicle and then flip to use the other, if your using the correct amount of polish/compound and breaking it down, you won't have to worry about slinging. Usually before I flip it I just give it a quick run at 6K opm to clear any loose particles.

If your pad is gunked up and you need to clean it and need to use it quickly, probably XMT Pad Cleaner/Conditioner would be your best bet, spray on, wait a couple seconds then clean in water and reuse (obviously spin the water out of the pad first).

Great advice about the flipping of the pad in the middle of polishing.

I just use Dawn and warm water to clean my pads. Then let them air dry.

:iagree: with supercharged!

What's the best method for using XMT cleaner. Just spray it on, let sit, and rinse with warm? water? If you clean the pads the same day after polishing/waxing, do you ever have to scrub much? If so, can you just use your hands?

Rub XMT into the pad. But the pic I put up, I just sprayed and rinsed. Depend on what polish you use and how dirty they are to how much cleaning you need to do..
