Cleaning WeatherTech Liners, opinions welcome....

It seems like lots of you have scuffs,
that make me feel better.

My wife heels have these black things on
the bottom for grip, they scuff everything.....
i shouldn't have married her :)
IMO:
Since you’re already married, it’d
probably be cheaper in the long run
if you get her a couple pair of these.

{Scuffs; what scuffs?!?!}

Cleaning the family truckster today, had the kiddo "helping". It's so easy a 3 year old can do it!

All joking aside, I bought this kit WeatherTech TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Care Kit and initially, didn't think much of the small (16oz) bottles it came with for the price. A little went a very long way. Used a total of 6 squirts of the cleaner, brushed the mat liberally. Then my little assistant helped by rinsing the mat again. After it dried in the sun for about an hour, I put it in the garage to cool in the shade. Applied the protectant using a foam wax applicator. The final shot is the end result. You can still see the scratches from the stroller going in and out, and my dog's nails (man I miss her), but I'm happy with it. I've never had much luck using APC on the weathertech stuff and I don't want the mats slippery. These products left a nice, clean almost new finish.

I use their overpriced cleaner and sealant. The sealant is nice but I like it mainly because it's not in any way slick like most others. Cleaner wise, just about anything will work.

I did a car that was going to a show a couple weeks ago and he wanted his rubber mats to "shine" or at least appear to be inky black. I do all mats the same way, presoak with diluted orange degreaser or wise guy if they're super disgusting, scrub with a brush and rinse with a pressure washer, then set aside to dry while I finish the car. For this guy, I used OptiBond gel diluted 1:1, sprayed it on, wiped it in with a microfiber rag and took off the excess. They came out great and were not slick at all. I wish I had a picture.

I have black rubber mats that turn somewhat grey. I find almost any cleaner will do, I gave the Weathertech cleaner to a friend, didn't see a point of another bottle on the shelf. Their protectant works pretty well, but to restore the dark black color I spray them with Trim Shine. Let them dry, and then knock it down with a microfiber cloth to remove the slickness. Works great, black mats and no sliding. If I wasn't trying to restore the black color, I would probably use the Weathertech protectant.

I have WeatherTechs in my 2016 Ram. Went all winter, and they where nasty with salt, etc. Simply wipe them down with soap and water. Then spray liberally with Megs 40. Wiper off excess. Done. Look brand new,

She has the perfect center of gravity for that job.

Looking at some of the pictures posted in this thread it appears that the majority do not have the same issue I have when cleaning my WT mats - that is despite how stiff a brush I use and how hard I scrub when they dry the edges of the grooves are still brown. I've tried APC, APC+, ONR, all with mixed results. They look great while they're wet but once they dry I am disappointed. Using a pressure washer does a slightly better job, but by no means have I ever been as successful as Klasse Act in his review...

I suppose I could bite the bullet and buy the WT cleaner, but does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Weird. I scrub the rubber mats in every car we clean and I don't think I've ever had any that were still dirty after despite many being filthy when I start. Maybe it's something discoloring your mats and not dirt?

McKee’s Tire & Rubber Rejuvenator. Don’t even have to scrub. Just spray on, let dwell, wipe off tons of grime.

Leaves rubber matts looking and feeling nourished without applying any kind of slick or greasy dressings. Naturally.

Mostly I just use water, but if they are really bad I use a little bit of ONR mixture in a spray bottle.
It doesn't "protect" but it doesn't leave them slick or shiny.

Eldorado,

Thanks for that info. I'll have to try some of the McKee's. The Weathertech products work great, but I'd rather find something more cost effective in one step.
