Coated my tires today and WOW,

That's a steal, but that in the incredibly cheap finnds thread because this stuff is liquid gold IMO, right up there with rinseless washes!

If you scuff a tire, do you have to redo the whole tire or just that area? Also, doesthe coating code off easily with the provided tire cleaner?

My wife "scufffed" her tires, both passenger side ones (hmm, wonder how that sort of thing happens!) and what I ended up doing, since it was close to a month anyways, was to just clean all 4, re-apply 2x's to the p/s and 1 coat on the d/s and it was good to go.

As far as the provided tire cleaner removing the coating, well I haven't had to remove the coating, nor will I be and FWIW this cleaner is made to clean the tire real good BEFORE applying the coating.

Hey Klasse,
Have you ever used the Tuff Shine cleaner? The reason I ask is that the Tuff Shine cleaner foams up and really shows the dirt being removed (foam browns up). I can tell when they're clean because the foam isn't browning. The Turtle Wax cleaner doesn't foam up when I brush it and it's hard to tell when the tires are clean. Am I doing something wrong or should I just trust the process a little more?
 
I felt the cleaner to be a little weak. I use Meguiar's D143 which does a better job at cleaning the tires.
 
So, anyone else have this problem? I cleaned my tires well with the cleaner and then applied 5 coats. I had the problem pictured below, so I cleaned the tires with water until no more dirt came off and applied 2 more coats and the problem is back. They look great when I coat them with full coverage, but then after a drive they look like this. The car has always sat several hours before driving after applying the coating and there is no evidence that it slung off.





The good news is that if you step about a foot away, you don't see the issue and it looks great, but something doesn't seem right.
 
I have not used anythinng from Tuff Shine so I can't comment on it. All I can say is that I've used the provided TW tire cleaner along with Purple Power w/ a foaming GG sprayer. Because I stay ontop of my car I can't say I ever seen too much "brown" coming out of my tires when using either one, FWIW.

Now Sy, I've done several tires and haven't had that issue. I would like to suggest not putting on more product but rather swipe it with the saturated applicator. My guess is there's still something on the tires from the mfg because your car is brand new and sometimes they have something on them when new, keep us posted on this. Btw, car looks great!

how many other tire coating products have you used? the chance that the rubber is retaining old gels and liquids could be a problem i would think.

you may want to try something like steam cleaning, or clean them off good, and leave them uncoated for a week or two, then clean them real good again and hopefully anything that has been absorbed by the rubber will be on the surface or gone by then.
 
I'm at 1 monh and have a show to go this weekend so I applied another coat this morning and will be applying a 2nd coat when I'm done with this post!

All that was ever on the tires was whatever the dealer put on which was removed by Adam's APC which cleans as well or better than tuf shine. Then I put on Smart Dressing which is water based. I then cleaned them well with the Turtle Wax cleaner. Other than that, nothing has been on the tires.
 
I just wonder if the protection the tire mfg seems to have on them was ever completely removed, just a thought. The APC you used may be a good product but sometimes that "slime" used by tire mfg's is tough.

So I lasted coated my tires on July 10th and did a rinseless wash this morning and used CG's Blue tire and wheel cleaner on the tires/wheels. I sprayed it on and used my wool feather duster to clean out the wheelwells, wheel barrels and tires them selves. I dried them real good and gave them about 30-40 mins to dry more after that. I then applied 2x's TW tire coating waiting the normal 10 mins of dry time and then headed to work about an hour and half later, here's what mine look like:

apc's may clean the surface, but i'm talking about whats underneath, thats why i suggested the steam... high pressure plus a lot of heat to open the pores up of the rubber, and you may get a better result and anything under the surface would be taken out as well.

have you tried pressure washing with heated water at a local self wash place? i know i could always get my tires pretty clean of old dressing if i threw 2 bucks in, and spent 2 minutes on each wheel spraying with the hot water in the pressure washer.
 
Going to the quarter car wash will clean the tires for sure but in my case I just used the provided cleaner and then followed up with Purple Power and scrubbing to do the initial coating, after that it was rinseless washes, CG's various wheel cleaners and application once a month. That said the coating was still black after a month, I just re-applied this last time because of a show coming up, that's all.

Later today I will post a pic of work van tires, applied 1 month ago, 1 coat and about 1,000 miles a week, give or take. The van hasn't been washed in 2 weeks either and has rained 2 days ago and it goes through EVERYTHING too! Stay tuned!

That's almost a year ago as it's 8/6/2014 as I type this.


I'm going to apply a fresh coat or two to go with the fresh polishing work done yesterday and I'll take a picture of how they look after I wash them and before I re-apply the TUF Shine.

The tires were not washed and they are dirty as I have not washed the wheels and tires for at least a month.

Have not tried the Turtle Wax product but if it doesn't leave the surface clean to the touch like the TUF Shine I won't put it on anything I own...

Mike, the Turtle Wax tire coating leaves it completely dry to the touch. It's great stuff! I've never tried the Tuff Shine coating though, I really love their cleaner.
 
Yeah the Turtle Wax tire coating is dry in 10 minutes. There is absolutely positively no sling! Now as far as durability is concerned, well I have been reapplying it once a month but that is because I want the tires to look really really black all the time but I will say that after 1 month they still do though.

I was unable to get a picture of my work van tires today but they are at the one month mark for durability. I can tell you this, they are still black and there is no brown anywhere to be found. I will be sure to take a picture of them tomorrow and post it up so you guys can see what these tires look like after one month and one coat applied . I really look forward to applying this product to my new snow tires when I get them in the fall , that will be the ultimate test for this tire product !

Here is a shot of my work van tire. This is 1 month old, 1 coat and about a 1,000 miles a week. The van was run through a carwash and not touched by hand as far as "evening out" the finish but I may do that tomorrow with a swipe of QD and a mf towel, check it out:

Also keep in mind the van has only been washed twice in 1 month too.

I thought I would give the Turtle Wax a try, since there are $3 coupons attached to the recent shipment of product. My initial impression is that it is shinier than Tuf Shine Tire Coating, and really shiny compared to Tuf Shine Black Restore, which is what I have been using.
