Considering selling flex 3401 and buying griots random

The second from the left is a Flex PE8 mini-rotary. Not seen that often, but it definitely has its place for correcting small areas (3.5" pads or smaller). Nothing that couldn't be done with a bigger rotary, it's just a lot smaller and lighter. The Flex DA equivalent is on the other side.

I've had mine for over 6 years now and its been great but I would suggest paying the extra money to Griot's for the RO that has the 25' cord hardwired, makes things a lot easier:xyxthumbs:

My G21 was faster then my 3401
My new makita is also faster then my 3401

Have yet to test makita po5000c side by side with my g21

Is this even a contest? How could the 5.5mm throw of the Makita be in the same league as a G21?

I really like the Makita's dual options of DA and forced rotation, but that 5.5mm throw is just so small...

Youre only looking at 1 aspect needed for correction and not factoring in the 6800 OPM nor the 790 RPM specs of the machine

But i may have to agree with your assessment due to the fact that makita was only about a pass faster then then 3401

Ive been wanting to do another video/test but better video clearly showing results of 1000grit removal..
May as well do the g21 too

Its probably more on par with a 12mm tool...more tests ha

Well i can honestly sat that new Mille is supposed to beat 3401 and 21 Mk2, but it doesnt beat 21 mk2 , infact 15mk2 beats is and my guess is that so will duetto. Im gonna test more on friday.

I didn't take into account those aspects, I just looked at the small throw and equated that with less correction than a large throw DA polisher. I've considered a G15 (or possibly G21), but pound for pound, if I can get close to the same correction, and have the forced rotation option to boot, then it would be a strong contender for my next tool.

The 3401 is by far the best polisher out and has been. Sounds like you need some education on pads, products, and speed/passes if your having issues with correction ability. I own the 3401,PE8,G15, G21, and GG mini 3" and my flex 3401 corrects faster then all of the other machines but my rotarys.

You talkin to me? :D Flex 3401 is ok and far from the best, it likes to walk and its like vibrator. Its only the third best forced rotation da after Makita and Rupes. It has been tested several times that 3401 corrects slower than 15-21 long throw da and even my friend who has been using 3401 for years, admits it.

Ill let you know as im curious myself
Ive been using the po5000c allot over my g21
One thinh i know for sure, i can leave makita on max with weight of machine with no ill effects to pads.

Ive only did it once with my g21 (my first time using it at debut) all 6 boss pad delaminated...havent took it past speed 4.5 since..then just acquired better transition techniques to keep pad rotation

Willing to bet the Low pros and HDOs could take the abuse..but dont really want to find out

Could just be a matter of that your better/more confident in your 3401 then you are with your long throws and still have yet to hone in on your longthrow polisher

Allot of detailers do this...either theyre long time longthrow and try the 3401...or long time 3401 user and try a 21mm..they end up not giving enough hands-on with the tool and dismiss it to early on before they develped the needed technique..

I was guilty of this for a while with the 3401...revisted it 2 more times after to finally develop a technique that worked vs just being adequate with it

If you are getting rid of the Flex I will buy it in a heartbeat. If you want to step backwards and spend more time correcting your ride with the Griot or Random Polisher that's your prerogative. Again, if you want to get rid of the Flex let me know. I would be more than happy to take that away and add a 2nd Flex in my arsenal.

I was going to offer to buy his as well since he's only used it 3 X's, but I just picked up a nice used one for my second 3401.

Hoarders!!! How the heck are the rest of us supposed to get a chance? :)

Rarely is correct. I've been looking for a while.

I bought one a month or so back on the Facebook Detailer's Trading Post. There's another group as well where people sell stuff, but I'm not in it. When I bought my 3401, it was one of 3 for sale at the time. I pounced on one that was worthy.

Guilty...when I just wanna get the job done quick, FLEX. When I wanna enjoy getting the job done and time is not an issue, Rupes LHR15 Mk 2; with a billet backing plate and a yellow or white Rupes pad, the smoothness just makes it so enjoyable its actually relaxing.
