My friend and i wanted to flush my coolant, but my radiator hose has a metal band around it, it is like nothing i have ever seen, it is not like the ones that you tighten with a screwdriver, it is just a solid band. I am going to jump into some DIY bmw things but i just wanted to know if any one could tell me what this band is and how do i take it off. :)

With out a picture, I couldn't guess. Post a picture, and we may be able to give you a better idea.

Does it have 2 bunny ears? that you would take off with a pair of needle nose pliers

^^True, they may be on the bottom of the clamp under the hose.

yea, check on the bottom side of the band, there should be two prong looking things. squeeze them together with pliars and you should be good to go.

I felt around it one more time but i can still find nothing

Sorry to say but it looks like a factory clamped setup, your only choise is to cut it off and then use a normal hose clamp when you flush the coolant.

Although, have a look at the bottom of the radiator if you have a bung, which you might be able to unscrew to complete the flush.

Hope this helps.

Most newer raditators do have a little valve you can open to flush that you can open to drain and flush. That being said, I went to open mine, and it would just spin and nothing would happen. I say cut it and get a new hose clamp.

There should be one of those little valve deals on the bottom of the radiator specifically for flushing the radiator.

Do not cut it. Just because you do not know the right way to do it you should not be destroying stuff. Leave it alone and find what is the right way to flush on your car.

I cut it an my car is ruined!......no just kidding. me and my friend tried again today, and we think that acctualy the metal band is not suppose to be removed, we think that it has to do with the plastic parts next to the hose. Now, i think our next approch is to do like you guys say and try to find the bottom of the radiator, to find a bleed valve or something.

I think i have something like that on my VW GTI, they are single use bands and pretty much for me i just pryed them off and replaced them w/ normal scew hose clamps

It may not have a bleed valve, the new gti's hve no bleed and you have to do soem suction and flushing to get the coolant out :( damn vw and other car comps making it hard for us who are able to do the work and actually know what we doing (hmmm ok maybe we dont but we mostly do hehe)

well i know car companys love to throw in allsorts of surprises to make you go to the dealer. I think i might also have a engine block bleeder valve that i also have to open!

There should be a plastic piece that is attacthed to the radiator, it has a thin wire clip that slides inside the plastic piece and locks around the radiator . You can use a pick to pull the clip out and slowly pull the hose off. it will take some force but be patient. I dont see the clip in the pic if you could get apicture closer to the radiator it would be more helpful. ive only done 7 series BMWs im sure they are the same connection.

earlier today we acctualy found the metal clip and we took it out, but the plastic fitting would not budge. so we could not get the hose off. Do you know if there is a bleeder valve on the bottom of the radiator or do i have to take the hose off, also do you know where the engine block bleeder valve is?

You can use a screw driver to pry it off, but be slow and very carful (plastic breaks) and pry the hose off slowly working around the plastic piece. I forget if there is a drain or not because i always just pull the hose.

Just to let you know when you install is put the clip back in first before you put it back on the radiator and slide it on as straight as you can. and to bleed out the air just turn the key to the on possition (dont start it yet) it has a electric water pump. and take the bleeder screw out on the upper hose it should be on the engine side of the hose. and before you do all that make sue the radiator is full.
