Correcting and coating my new Ferrari F355

dude i work with had a 355 for years. he got it after a 348 and then got a 360, which he still has. it was a manual car.

it was a good car. much more manageable from the driver's seat than the 348. service history was excellent, super low miles but still serviced, obv.

only issue was he had an exhaust manifold crack which is common on these. we actually replaced both sides with headers at that point.

best of luck with your new piece. they sound amazing, even with stock exhaust.

this was the day he got it. i painted the shield on the wall in his garage.

I am thinking about that power washer you have, the model I want is about 200, how do you like it?

I'm not sure exactly but I'd say around 12-14 hours on the 2 nights of polishing and 5 hours on the day I did the interior and engine compartment.

I might end up bringing my Mazda3 or my detailing van. We'll see how the weather plays out but I'd love for you guys to check the 355.

Yes every 30k the engine does have to come out for the major belt service. The engine is removed from the bottom but comes out fairly easily if you have access to a lift and the right tools. It sounds bad but you have to remember that most owners don't use these as their daily drivers. 30k miles is a lot of driving for a car that is only taken out for pleasure drives most of the time. Now the price of parts on the other hand is a different story haha.

Very nice, I love that color and those brakes. Lucky for me my headers had already cracked in the past and were replaced by the previous owner at a Ferrari dealership :)

I love it! Had it for over a year now and not a single problem.

Congrats on the new ride - that is quite the detailing work you did on it - incredible that it only got driven about 1000 miles a year.
 
Nicely done. I give props to you. Amazing work and love on your personal car and a huge plus for documenting everything in order.

One of my favorite cars of all time, have posters hanging. This has got to be the best feeling in the world to own one. One day, one day.... Lol

it can vary greatly. i'll let the OP go into detail if he wants...

but the main thing is service history and current service status. then the obvious stuff like condition (original? has tools? any previous damage?), body style, color combo, mileage, etc. spiders are moved around a lot more than berlinettas...by a large margin...and from what i've seen, it's always been that way. i've often wondered if production correlates to that as well.

having been around several gens of Ferraris closely for over a decade, it's a love/hate relationship. they are perplexing in many ways (strange QC, ridiculous service intervals, odd/flawed mechanical design choices) but i think that the 355 is particularly cool. i was kind of over it by the time the 360 came out but it became attractive again as Ferrari got more and more wild with their designs and made cars that most owners would never even be able to drive more than say 5/10ths due to space shuttle tech and a CRAZY high performance ceiling that you are definitely paying for but will never, ever use.

i think people sleep on silver Ferraris so i was kinda tickled that the OP picked one up! it looks so nice with that detail work completed.
 
Nothing looks quite as good as a Ferrari! Great work on it and excellent photos.
 
Thanks everyone! I think builthatch covered everything pretty well. They're great cars with great motors but be prepared to spend quite a bit on maintenance and repairs. The convertible top is in my opinion the biggest drawback of the car due to its complexity and various issues with the hydraulic system. Still it feels incredible driving with the top down. The 30k belt service is huge on these so it's probably not the best idea to skip out on doing it. Overall it's a wonderful car that makes an absolutely wonderful sound. Never fails to put a smile on my face.
