oh and we spent this boring weekend using thenew pc!!! hee hee

now that i have your attention, he worked hard on my 07 vette. we clayed, washed, used xmt 2 and ten xmt 1 , lc orange and white pads, and souveran paste. We wash now with the schmitt, pinnale body shampoo and the guzzler.
STILL HAVE SWIRL MARKS!!! 2 days, 2 passes, hours and hours..
We busted our butt on this new car...I am not happy 500 dollars later!!! OUCH!!!!!
Help!! What is wrong? It is better, but not like the flawless beauties I see up here.
OMG, what does it take??? What do I do? What do I buy now? Please help!!Feed back please  thank you!! Lauren and Hopeless, the red vette

I will get them up tomorrow, when the sun is out.

we did take some befores, but i finished after sundown tonight. and my helper is returning tomorrow morning to do the remaining work, like tire gel, etc. he can shoot the potos. what is the best way to get them up here? photo bucket?

As I said before in your posts, DO NOT be afraid to use heavy compounds on a corvette. You will need to use some yellow pads and XMT3, or Optimum Hyper Compound, or SSR3.

And once you ge the majority out, you will have to do a pass of xmt2 to get any marring out. Corvettes are hard! And the point of you getting the PC was to save money by polishing yourself! :P

Corvettes have notoriously hard paint to work with. As Ryan mentions you'll probably need to get more aggressive with your polish pad and possibly make more than one pass with your most aggressive combination.

You may want to try XMT 3 and make sure your passes are slow enough thats it's working the product into the paint! Go slow only 1 inch a sec or slower!

Yes, slow is a major key to get rid of the swirls, i almost stop on the real bad ones, i usualy use MG #82, but i have orderd the XMT #3, 1 and glaze to see how good they are.

Make the 19 year old boy remove the swirls, he has strong arms i supose:D ;)

Thank you, everyone. I will be placiong an order for xmt 3 today. Should I use yellow pads too - the strongest lc pads? Or does someone have a recommendation on this?
Gracias!
Lauren :-)

congrats on the car and in t he best color too! I guess you got the swirls from the dealer prep? Mine has no swirls but must have sat outside I have some acid rain damage. I used optimum and the yellow pad did wonders to it. David

Try the XMT3 on an orange first, then yellow.

No, he just likes to make money. But he is in school for automotives.
PLMK which product you feel is stronger - the XMT 3 or Megs 82.
I won't give up till it looks right....if that takes the whole dang new year...which it probably will.
Everyone thinks I am a nut job for wanting an immaculate show car! But you understand!!:righton:

Yellow and a few passes of XMT with firm pressure should get those out. ake sure you work it in at speed 5 for a while and finish with speed 4. Taking your time is key with the XMT series.

DEFINITELY a will do. So very much apreciated!!! I am placing my order today.
Lauren:cheers: you're the best!Im the MAN

i have the XMT #3 in order, I probably have it in a week or so, you probably get it before me, but when i have it, ill let you know.

If some others have a comparison regarding xmt3/MG#82, it would be great to read. The MG#84 and #85 has more "cut" but they are for the rotary, and i would not try that on a Vette. unless you have tried it before

no, i have never used a rotary. better swirls than carving into the paint - ouch!
and yes, the swirls came courtesy of the dealer.:-(

Ah yes .... several passes do not equal 5 minutes per area. You must be hesitant to allow the polish and pad combo to work correctly. Since the PC offers no heat exchange you will likely polish every area for several minutes at full speed. And me ... no way would I use yellow pads on a Vette. You will trade swirls for micromarring. Stick with orange and maybe a more abrasive polish. Polish / repolish / jewel.

Also don't be afraid to apply pressure with the PC, the hood of my truck took quite a bit of pressure on a yellow Edge pad and Optimum Compound to get the swirls out.

Patience young grasshopper, jj, seriously, it takes time and not always will results occur after just one pass, its a common thing with highly swirled paint and hard clearcots. I had the same problem with my car the first time, and trust me I was upset too, but after a few more passes, I began to notice results. I had a lot of trouble becusae my car is white and shinnig a light on it doesn't do anything but blind you. I actually did mine at night under a flood light, bright enough to see the swirls, but not enough to blind. ANyway, back to you, I think of the process as experimenting, figuring out what works best, trying different things, it does take time to get the hang of it, but you will be very satisfied in the end. Like surfer already mentioned, take some picks and post them. Good luck.:awesome:

Patience and multiple slow passes with pressure are keys. It can be frustrating I know.

I use either Menzerna 106 or BF Scratch Resistant Clearcoat polishes with an orange LC pad, followed by a white pad. For spots I use a 4 " orange pad with Optimum Compound, then follow with one of the above polsihes with a white pad. IMO OC works slightly better than XMT#3.
