Damaged my z06....

my heart sank at the title of this thread, i didnt even have to read anything. i wanted to cry.

the cars you see on lots that have these like new without a doubt have the covers finished seperately. robots and all, it still ends up being slightly different.

:hijacked:, sorry Mark.

Hatch, like Dwayne I've heard from numerous painters that the composition of the material being painted is what causes paint to not match. That's why, like you stated, the bumper covers and the rest of the car normally do not match. It makes sense doesn't it, when you think about that last statement you wrote above.

The radiator clips are pretty easy to break on our vehicles. I had to replace mine. I thought about having a friend making a skid plate, We designed a bolt on plate, but werent sure we would have enough of a market. I paid $700 to replace mine!

Man I know that has to hurt, especially when there is no one to blame but yourself. It's amazing just how quick things can get ugly.

I wouldn't feel too bad (easy for me to say I know). I don't think I know a single Lotus owner who doesn't have some of the same "spider webbing" in the front air dam as the result of rubbing it on a drive way, speed bump, or other uneven road surface. The car is just too dang low. They are very difficult to get on a transport or tow truck.

See if that was me when I had my mustang, not only would the front bumper and front core support taken damage...but my MAC longtubes would have been smashed to hell! Why its always smart to only play down backroads that you know.

That stinks Mark! BUT (this is my philosophy) cars are only hunks of metal regardless of how much money or hours of polishing are put into them. They are meant to be driven and you certainly were (and I commend you for it). As long as you were driving safe and having fun you cant get too upset. Accidents happen. You are safe and unharmed so just thank the big man upstairs and chuckle every time you look at the minor paint defect

My dad would say, "that's what you get". (which is what I heard every time I did something stupid, and got hurt or broke something).

Sorry to hear this Mark. I'm sure you'll do what ever it takes to make you happy again!!!

LOL, sounds like my Dad (he's a no nonsense type of person)- except he would say, "see, i told you"...

I was driving down an unfamiliar side street and it was very wide with no traffic. I decided I wanted to "get on it" for a bit. So, I was going fairly fast and didn't see the dip ahead. I had no time to slow down, and my front bumper took a pretty massive blow from underneath. MY HEART SANK!!!!!!!! From the sound of the large boom, I knew there would be damage. I ended up snapping the lower metal rdiator support and also from the force of the blow, the paint flexed, and I ended up with a few spots of "spider webbing" on the lower part of the front bumper. Ahhhhhhh, damn!!!! :( Anyhow, no one would notice it unless I pointed it out. I'm VERY ANAL about keeping all factory paint on the car. Besides, it's very hard to match silver, especially when your painting a plastic bumper with Flex agent. I, along with the body shop guy manager decided that it's not worth it to re-paint the whole bumper, when 90% of it is just fine. All in all, I'm pretty bummed, but I'm glad the damage wasn't THAT bad.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. And I know what you mean about the original paint.

I guess it all comes down to we try so hard keep our cars as nice as we can for as long as we can and beyond that hope for the best.

Mark, sorry about the Vette. I have a Lambo and scrape the front spoiler EVERY year. At the end of driving season here in N.Y., I bring it to my guy to have it resprayed. Mine is a tough paint match as well, it's pearl yellow. The first time the color was a little off. Now the shop knows how anal I am and he keeps my paint for me. Looks perfect now, as I'm sure yours will. The first one's the hardest, then you chalk it up to owning a sports car. Good Luck my friend :dblthumb2:

No matter what the ride is, our baby is our baby and we hate to see them "hurt".
