I was cleaning the dash on a Toyota Sequoia, aprox 10 years old, heavily abused soccer mom vehicle, and When I wiped the passenger side airbag cover with Meg's APC+ 10:1, the greyish tan color came off, revealing black plastic underneath. I switched to cleaning with just dawn and water, but I was still having issues with plastic and leather coming off onto the rag. How can I fix this big ugly spot on the dash, or at least minimize it, and why is the plastic coming off?

I don't think what i say will help you but i have a 9 years old Sequioa. I was using Zep purple 10:1 ratio to clean the inside. Everything was find until i clean the steering wheel. The "plastic" suffice rub right off and revealed dark plastic underneath. It also felt sticky. At that point, i stopped and let it dry. A couple hours later, it became smooth to touch again. also the black plactic underneath is less noticeable once it dry.

Is there any kind of touch up paint I can put on this

You have a PM that will fix it.

That's good to know b/c I was thinking he's screwed. It looks like the dye has come off and other than painting it (essentially re-dying), there's no cure. I'd be interested to see what your suggestion is too.

My thought too, too much sun damage without protection for too long. Re-dye is the only fix i know of when seeing that.

I would llike to know the fix for myself and others if this should happen to them?

Can I post a link?

If anyone gets mad for this link sorry....

I used this for my truck, I can barely tell where the paint came off. No one else even knows.. You are repainting it but it's super easy, you sand a fix bit around the edges where the paint peeled off, but not too much to remove the texture, 2500grit works great. IPA wipe down, throw a couple of coats and you're golden. The key it two do three to four LIGHT coats if not more till it looks good.

Got it just in case it's removed. :props:

Back in the day, they used to see interior sprays in places like K-Mart, Sears and like stores. They weren't all that bad! :props:

I dont see why it would be removed, as far as I know, autogeek does not stock a comparable product.

I think your good Jomax.

Thanks Jomax! Saved link, good to know there is something to fix it, if stuff like this happens.

Just happy to help, diesel guys use it all the time when installing gauges on the a pillar. I even know a guy who painted his leather with the stuff, didn't come out too bad!

yes you can..

there are leather and vinyl repair kits at most parts stores, pepboys has them, that'd be my first idea

Like to see how it turns out. Post some 'after' pics when you're done. Good luck.
