Dealership nervousness...

. Jeeps been at the dealer for an hour, all they came up with is they suspect the vacuum line under the battery is torn. Thats what's wrong with the cruise. Battery is bad according to them yet I tested it at my friends autozone 6 times and it passed. Idk. I'm pissed. $210 of work so far and that's all. Ugh. My normal shops are 4.5hrs away

Whenever you got to a dealer you have to expect to be hosed. That being said, you should also expect a diagnosis and what it cost to fix it. If your dealer is playing parts hanger they shouldn't expect you to pay for it. Tell them to call you when they know what is wrong with it. Ask them if the shop foreman can diagnose it.

I got hosed about a year ago paying 4k for cats for my 12 yo car. But the diagnosis was right, the work was done right, and the car is still fixed. I could have got it done for $900 at the local grease pit, but decided paying for quality work was a wise investment.

If you can find a mech you can trust, you have found gold. I have one fror my Bug and one for the rest. YOu know you can trust you mech when he tells you "i can fix it but your better off junking it since the cost will be more than the car is worth."

I think most AGO members know that sometime dealers cause damage. However if they do not inspect and prep a new car, how does one make sure they are covered for any damage that occurs from factory or during transport?

Does your dealer do a vehicle walk around and give you a copy of it when you drop off your vehicle?

Yes and I know the owner of the dealer ship. I do side work for him on his personal cars.

If I took my car to my family's body shop for repairs and if I say don't detail it please.

They would just say, we weren't going to anyway.

Speaking of dealers, it seems like it is impossible for them to not get oil all over the paint when doing an oil change. My gf took hers in to get the oil changed and there was oil all over the hood latches and fenders.

All it took was one time for me at the dealership telling them NO WASH and now everytime I bring one of my cars in for an oil change, the attendant asks me how the detail business is going. I do get pissed when I see that oily hand print on a fender or on the hood from when they closed it. I always have a MF in my hand when I close the hood.
