This thread/post may seem to make no sense at all to some and may be painfully obvious to others. There was a time in my life when I wouldn't have understood it but I do now. I am going to share something that has helped me to understand that the decisions that I make today and the actions that I do or do not take today will effect my future.

A lot of folks have told me that if I place one foot in yesterday and one foot in tomorrow that I will be completely stepping over and missing out on the opportunities that would have been possible to secure "today". I agree with this wholeheartedly because "today" is all we have.

Concerning being an aspiring business man in the detailing world or any other setting for that matter, in making decisions today I have to always think "How will this effect the future"?

Here is a short clip from a movie that I saw when I was in my twenties. The content of this clip is something that I have pondered on, literally thousands of times when making decisions in my life.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99nRyV_QQJA]YouTube - ¡VE LO QUE NADIE MÁS VE![/video]

Today, the questions that I am asking myself are..."how much do I charge for this job when it's completed? "If I charge too much, how will it effect my dealings with this particular customer"? "If I don't charge enough, how will if effect my word of mouth"?

These are questions that only I can answer so I am not looking for replies concerning these particular questions. I just got to thinking about the movie clip and how it has helped me to live in the solution instead of living in the problem. It is a very positive message that I can use in "all" of my affairs so I thought I would share it so that it may be used in the context of how to make money detailing cars.

One of the things that I do on a regular basis is to ask a more experienced business man what he would do. This is one of the great things about these discussion forums, there is always someone who has more experience than me to bounce such things off of before taking action.

Paying consequences today because of a decision that I made years ago is just something that happens in life and it is never fun, but this situation can be limited or reduced by "playing the tape through", seeing into the future so to speak.

Hopefully some of you will add to this thread some of the Helpful analogies, Acronyms, metaphors or stories that you have lived by in the light of being positive.

I'll start it off by repeating what a client/friend of mine tells me. He says..."Dave, you need staying power". "If they see that you have been around for a few years and still have the same phone number, they will think about those who are not around anymore and figure you must be doing something right".

My intention was to make this a positive thread so please...If all that you have to contribute to it is negativity...please click the "home" button now.

One of many homilies I try to live by: "Believe in yourself then others will as well".

Seems like we are always in such a rush...........sometimes it is good to pause and think about how our actions or decisions we are about to make will affect the future .........(usually leads to a wiser decision or choice)!!

:iagree:

I think society as a whole has gotten too caught up in the idea of instant gratification, to the point that no one looks past the end of their nose and just decides to "live in the moment" instead of considering what will happen long term because of what they're doing now.

There are certain times where "shoot now, ask questions later" is a good strategy, but especially when it comes to trying to build a successful business or career it's always better to have a somewhat calculated path (of course being mindful that your course may have to change along the way).

50% of ppl don't care about your problems. The other 50% are glad you have them

I have all kinds of Words of Wisdom I have picked up over the course of life. Cool thread Dave

BTW....What did you end up charging :poke:

The definition of Luck - when opportunity meets preperation.

Luck is not some mystical or supernatural thing. It is simply being prepared when an opportunity presents itself. If you find yourself faced with "a chance of a lifetime", you need to be prepared to take advantage of it.

For example, if you run into Jay Leno somewhere and he happens to need someone to maintain his vehicles and you are clean cut (shaved), have plenty of literature to present your business in the most professional way, and have the experience to impress him you may get the job. But, if you have not taken the time to create professional brochure, business card and have just woke up from an all night binge, chances are you will not.

It's all about being prepared for the possible "one shot" that could send your business in a neck breaking spiral to the stars.

Great words of wisdom from my grandfather.

Thank you Dave. I try to remember the words you always see in my signature...

"Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential" - Winston Churchill

simplest rule in existence. the golden rule. do unto others ...... payback doesnt have to be a ##### it can actually be quite rewarding.

Here's a saying that I find myself going back to from time to time:

I find there is very little difference between people. But that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude, the big difference is whether it's positive or negative.

Who needs luck when you have blessings. All the preparation and luck in the world can't add up to a single blessing God give us. All God's blessings come with or without our preparations. Thank God for that!:)

Hope I can write this with some sort intelegence...

I've always just tried to 'do good.' Call it the Golden Rule or anything else, just try and 'do good.'

If I may; during the winter months, I (we) go out of our way to make sure there is always bird seed, squirrel food, etc available. Neighbors kinda make fun of Bill and Karen always feeding the critters, but come the spring/summer months, they ask how come you have all the birdies, butterflies and such.

Do good and it WILL come back to bless you. Whether it be man or animal. Maybe not in monetary means, but self goodness.

Bill
