Did I burn though my clear coat?
I'm totally kidding, thought I would share with you guys my work on my car this spring and summer.
So to start out my old bumper had a crack in it due to someone backing into me in the driveway. My hood had rock chips and primer marks in the clear coat. I also had a new trunk to paint so here is my pics.
Sanded the hood down to the original paint
Then I flipped the hood over to do the inside of the hood while I was doing paint. This is the hood primed and ready for the red to be laid down.
Here is the BMW chili red laid down
So then I had this crazy idea to make a design on the inside of the hood.
Here is the design all masked off and ready for black
The black painted and the paper torn off.
And finally the mask pealed off and the clear coat sprayed.
So then I proceeded to prime and sand down the hood, trunk and bumper.
And after spraying red, pearl, and clear coat this is how they turned out
So while I was painting there was some parts that also needed to be painted black so I pulled some other parts like the rain tray and the rear valance off to be painted black
So after all this I had been rushing to get her done for a car show. So this is how she turned out.
So the car show was a good hour and 45 minuets away from my house so how did I protect my 1 week old paint? Well here it is
Some good ol painters tape did the trick and it pealed right off with no residue left
As of this week I am prepping for a large VW show at the end of the month so I did a full detail on the car.
Started with a 2 bucket wash and then a full swirl correction
Here you can see some of the swirls in the paint, there a little hard to see with the pearl but you can kind of see them.
Used my griots d/a for the first time doing this
Coming from using just a rotary polisher I was very pleased with the power of the d/a. 100% satisfied with my purchase.
The final product after the swirl remove
and no more swirls
After all of this I polished off with Menzerna 4500.
Then on to my next step of adding the glaze. Used CG Blacklight.
Then protected it all with CG Petes 53
And finally the the fruits of my labors, the water droplets the morning after
By the way all these photos were taken with my iPhone so I apologize for any crappy photos.
Let me k now what you guys think!
