Did my first oil change today! Pics

Gotta agree with Mark on this one, fellas.

How are they to prove you did/didn't change your oil "on a timely basis"?

And this is from a guy that has sent hundreds of oil samples to labs to check for babbit (failing bearing) evidence. (Not once in a bearing failure did the insurance company question the oil change frequency. And you know if they could, they would.)

There is NO way for anyone to tell when your last oil change was. Not oil color, content, or consistency.

Very easy. They ask for invoices and all invoices, by law, have to be dated. So if your warranty calls for an oil change every 6 months, you have to be able to give invoices for oil purchases and oil filter purchases at the dates that match the 6 months intervals. When you do work at the dealership, it is automatically added in your maintenance record, so that is why it is easier to do it there, it requires less work on your part. But if you decide not to use the dealership for maintenance, you better keep a detailed record, with invoices of everything done on the car.

I’m Telling you I work at a dealership. You got a engine that goes and no maint history at the dealer, well you gotta have proof or it will be denied. After market warranties can be even worse. Seen them deny claims for just about anything.

Some places may not care but really the dealer is supposed to be protecting the manufacturer as the front line.

Chances are if you do actually maintain it you will not have a problem in the warranty period anyways.

This has nothing to do with magnussen moss act or aftermarket modifications. It’s just oil change maint in the talk of engine problem in the warranty period.

+1 From a previous dealer tech. If engines had a failure that was linked to questionable maintenance, they'd decline coverage if you couldn't provide receipts for oil changes or supplies.

I had an engine recall, as far as I know they did not care about that although it is a warranty requirement. Maybe it depends on the engine issue. I bought my car used though so I have no way to know what the person before me did with it for 2 years.

A recall is different from a warranty repair. A recall indicates there was a major problem that would lead to a safety concern (engine pops, now you don't have power steering/power brakes = problem).

As far as tire rotation...if it's front wheel drive cross the rear tires when you move them to the front and move the fronts straight back. If it's all wheel drive cross the fronts when you move them to the rear and bring the rear tires straight forward.

Don't forget to make sure the tires aren't directional (or staggered sizes). If the tires have rotation arrows or left/right on the outsides, then it's front to back swap.
