Dirty Girl - Extreme Maserati Makeover!

... When you clean and decontaminate white paint, the before and after are quite revealing. Some of my clients have said to me they did not understand how I can make their white paint so white ;)

I just did a white 2019 Acura RDX. The young lady said it looked better than when she bought it. She had told her brother, "it's new...how bad could it be?' - Well, she was amazed by how it turned out.

If you are anything like me, you will not like anyone helping you ;) I am way too focused on how to do things, I would try to micromanage the poor guy to death LOL

Yes! I would be like that too.

It's GO TIME....

:)

NICE.

I'll check out the video during lunch time.

Thanks for the write-up. And the tons of pics. Helps out a ton (I was just re-reading your Blackfire coating thread).

By the time I drained this battery down.

The other battery was full charged.

Was able to do the entire car including glass, headlights, taillights and b-pillars with one 8 ounce bottle and there’s still a little left.

Still need to wipe compound off.

I think I'll stick w/ the cord vs. 6x $114 batteries (and the $500 for the new FLEX unit)

Your mileage may vary.

Huh?

I used 2 batteries.

As I drained one battery, I placed it on the charger and swapped in the fully charged batter.

Used 3 battery CHARGES total. And there was still power left when I was on my third charge.

My guess is you were looking at the batteries I had in the background, I didn't use them, should have moved them out of the shot. I have about 16 total cordless FLEX tools here in the garage, so I have a lot of batteries.

In the real world, you only need 2 batteries. As you drain one battery down, slap it into the charger and put the charged battery into the tool. If you're a worry-wart, get a third battery and never worry.

Sorry for any confusion Howard.

Here's a video I just shot after wiping off the polish.

Note the clock says 3:00pm. That's not the "time" it's to show how many hours I'm into this project. I compounded the entire car, headlights, glass, b-pillars and tail lights in less than 3 hours. I teach techniques in my classes that show you how to get the paint correction step done as fast as humanly possible so you can move onto the next step.

Here's the walk-around video. This is JUST polished. So basically naked paint.

Going to wash my hands, put on some gloves and then chemically strip the paint. As I say in the video above, when you're doing this type of work you need LOTS of clean, UN-CONTMINATED microfiber towels.

It takes hours to buff out a car... only seconds to put scratches back into the paint -Mike Phillips

How, why & when to inspect your microfiber towels when detailing cars

You're correct. My mistake.

>> I noticed that you basically only taped the sunroof and the side mirrors, why was that? <<

Here’s my work station with everything ready to go

Starting work at noon Mike? Are you a banker? :)

Have fun with this one, I noticed you posted a gazillion pictures, gonna go through them now ;)

Polishing step

Because I used a compound - as a professional best practice I did a second step using PBL Polish and a 7” RUPES white foam finishing pad.

Mmmm... buttery smooth...

The compound results looked phenomenal!

But after polishing the paint looks like it’s candy coated.

They should have made a charger that can do 2 batteries at the same time.

Lithium-Ion batteries wear faster when: You charge them over 70% or drain them bellow 30%.

So the ideal situation is to charge them to 70% and stop working them when they have 30% charge left. With 3 batteries it would be super easy to do if you could charge 2 at the same time.

Still, it could probably be done but would require more of your attention, or maybe just a timer once you know how long it takes to charge to around 70%.

Definatelly not a cheap solution, but not having a cord in the way must be so great!

Regarding the batteries. Is there a standard for that or do each tool use a battery designed only for it?

I only have 1 battery powered tool and it's a drill. Black and Decker to be more precise. Do the batteries from that fit on a Flex polisher?

:updated:

... Hope you guys are appreciating this, it would a lot easier to just buff out the car...

:)

Very much so. B&S so far. Got it. Thanks for ALLLLL the documentation, tips, comments, video, pics.

Wow?

:dunno:

I'm following along as I get a chance :)

So far, so good! But my lunch break is over now, I'll try and get in during coffee breaks and such.

Thanks Mike

No, the battery won't fit. Each brand likes to have their own format. Usually fits everything in the same brand but not always true. I'm thinking these Flex cordless polishers all use the same battery and if you buy multiple tools you got your multiple batteries that are interchangeable.

@Mike, interesting applicator you made there. Is there a reason you prefer that over what most other coatings come with (suede over a foam block)?
