DIY LED Work Light (much better than halogen!)

1 should be enough. sometimes ill only use 1 for light colored vehicles. if you use 2 on a light colored car, it tends to blow out the color and just blind you. 2 is superior for dark colored vehicles though

reflection of single bulb set up i put on top of my cabinet. 4 bulbs. all apart from each other about 36 inches. it's probably 10 feet away from the car in this picture.

i saw this stand which extends from 3' 8"- 8' 5" and has built in locking casters and sells for $29.99. i would imagine it would help stabilize the stand...

i think it will. wheels add a little weight. you can always add an ankle weight strap to the opposite leg

Big thanks to everyone who added to this one over time... I put my light together and used it for the first time this past weekend, and it was excellent! I had a mic boom stand already, so just bought a dolly to add wheels/weight and the other necessary equipment (bulbs, adapters, etc). IMO, it would be hard to beat the flexibility of this setup.

Hi There,

Can you let me know where you found these ?

This is the best thread....EVER. Absolutely love this setup and it gives off some serious light and should show imperfections with ease. My car isn't a good example since it doesn't have any imperfections to find :xyxthumbs:. The tripod is way more sturdy than I thought it would be even when its set to the maximum height. Definitely going to buy a second light holder and clamp it towards the bottom.

Heres what I ended up buying from Amazon in case anyone is lost:

thats the bulbs i want from amazon but amazon uk dont stock them , im worried the 1800lm will be too bright expecially when there only going to be 1-1.5 metres away and am sure somone said anything more than 1500lm is overkill...

Oh 1800lm. Sorry thought you said 1200. It might be "overkill" but I don't think it will cause any issues. Is that your only option in the U.K.? If so, then I'd give it a shot and return if it doesn't work out.

yes i might have to do that , only other option is import these from the states but will cost me a lot more due to customs tax and huge shipping fees but atleast i have the correct bulb. i still confused to why its not widely available here in uk.

Did you look on eBay? Might be more U.K. Lights there. Don't you guys have hardware stores that carry Par38 bulbs or is too pricey locally?

yes checked ebay and they dont have any par38 with above 900 lumens and 5000k temp colour , i am very good at finding deals and buying online but i can only assume par38 bulbs are just not common here in uk. to be honest i dont think i ever seen these in any electrical equipment here in uk.
i have been to around 6 big stores in uk called asda(walmart), b&q, homebase, argos, screwfix, toolstation and none stock anything like these.
im actually just going to have to buy from amazon.com and import it here and pay customs tax etc :(
