do you guys spread wax by hands?

I do in tight places, using a DoDo Juice 30ml panel pot,, easy to use 2-3 fingers, to wipe/spread in some areas. Tried a finger-Supernatural mitt applicator, sometimes easier to just use a finger or two.

I have done it by hand and like it when I have time (which is rare these days). After a few vehicles my hands became noticeably stronger!!!

These days I will use a Polishing Pal, P21S foam applicator or a gold applicator just to save some time. Every now and again I will use a DA but I cannot get around the fact that I waste a lot of product since the pad needs to be covered.

Have you tried using a 4" pad (Hydro Tech Crimson)?

This may have already been mentioned but the only wax i know that says to apply by hand is zymol royale which is something like $10,000 a jar. Its 100% white carnuba which is very hard so the heat and enzymes in your hand breaks it down and essentially melts it.

Never heard the enzyme angle

Any additional information on that would be interesting to me

The guy everyone mentioned who hand waxes literally by hand is Paul Dalton. He is based out of the same track as Top Gear is filmed. He owns Miracle Detial, you can you tube that or google it. He is one of the worlds premier detailers and works with Rupes, Swissvax, GTechnique, and Modesta coatings for test beds for their products. He clearly knows what he is doing.

There is a video on his site that was done a few years back, where he hand waxes a Maserati with a 10k special wax made specially for him by Swissvax.

The hands help keep the wax warm to spread it allows full coverage and close to trim and other places, which on a 1mil car that is paramount. He is also very helpful if you can ever get him on the phone and does take time to help other detailers if they get in a bind.

Now, we on here know all about many different waxes, sealants, coatings etc.... and the many ways for us to apply them, each person has their favorite way, and usually it changes by vehicle for some.

AMMONYC also has a video where Larry explains the process of hand waxing on a AM V8 Vantage. Look it up, its on his website.

Hope this helps explain this.

I've been waxing by hand the past couple times, I seem to use less wax that way -- used way too much with the applicator (1/3 to 1/2 a Dodo 30 ml jar) no matter how hard I tried to ration.

I like it, though can understand others not.

Applying wax to my Woodys,
with my bare hand(s)....

FWIW, the subject in question is not about waxing byhand with applicators, but spreading wax with bare hands.

Yep. To be clear, bare handed now, versus Lake Country applicator w/ hand before.

Bare handed (fingered, really)=less wax used (for me).

How could you possibly use half a dodo juice jar? I know they are incredibly small, but that's a ton of wax for one use! I use barely a sliver of wax for a whole car.

Because I'm still learning? That's all I got.

At least I knew something was wrong when a jar that should do 5 or so cars was nearly gone after 2 coats, and made amends.
