I was thinking as a "Marketing" idea that will target people selling their cars is...

If they hire me to detail their cars, that i would take picture (i was going to do anyways) and host their on my website in a cars for sale section. I would include all the information that they would like plus the pictures.

Ya or na?

I think its a great idea!

IDK if they still are in print, but Auto Trader magazine may be an option to look into

Okay thanks guys! I thought it might have sounded or thought it was a little cheesy.

You can always rely on this forum to tell you the truth, feelings hurt or not. The truth will be told!

Playing the devils advocate the only thing I can think of at the top of my head (and by the way I am going through some sleep deprivation right now so my thinking can be way off) is what if someone asks you to polish and sell their turd? I think you are going to be getting a lot of phone calls (regardless of the contact info you put down (especially if they cannot get ahold of the seller)). Now you are wasting your time and effort to talk to someone about some 1500 p.o.s. while you might be missing potential customers. Furthermore, if you are selling the same vehicle, how is it going to look when someone with a 7-series or S-class wants a detail and they see the "rides" you are detailing. Image and perception is everything. Just wanted to throw that out there, I think its a great idea and that type of thinking will help you be successful but I think you really need to realize the possible ramifications of doing such.

Thanks for the reply and thought. I do have to agree with you on getting phone call and such from potential buyers of customers vehicle. I need to put some serious thought into that. But i also figured that if the seller of the vehicle passes along my web address to potential buyers, i might also attract them into a detail for their own vehicles.

Here is my original thought, listing their cars for sale on my site would..
1.gives them additional incentive to have me detail their vehicles
and in return i would get ...
2. potentially new customers ( the ones selling their vehicles)
3. more traffic to my site (potential buyers of customers vehicles)

As previously mentioned I think thats great thinking outside of the box and I can see it helping garnish new business. If you do decide to try this avenue I hope that it works.

I will give you one more thing to ponder then I will leave you be as I do not want to try to sound like some mastermind CEO who is running the most successful business in the world or a know-it-all. The key to success in any business (in my eyes) is offering a product that someone wants. Whether it be tangible or a service as you are offering. With that being said I would watch venturing too far off the beaten path and remain focused on one thing offer one type of service that you are really good at and can excel at. The more you offer the less you will be stellar at that one thing because your focus is spread out. A perfect example is a leatherman or a swiss army knife. They are great little functional tools that offer all sorts of little gadgets and do-dads that offer a lot of convenience in a little package. That being said, you are not going to build a house with a leatherman or a swiss army knife. As nice as they are and as convenient as they are, they are not as good or as viable as a choice as the individual tools they replace. Another good analogy is Best Buy, they sell a lot of stuff and at good prices. They do not offer the best, at the best prices or even when it comes to their service its more of the same. Go to a specialty store and now you have a totally different animal.

It seems as though you are just starting out and any sort of business is good business and if this helps you get clients and gets your feet into the door more power to you. However once your business develops, if I were you, I would decide what avenue you want to take and go in that direction.

Tundra 10, Hey man i REALLY do appreciate your time in responding to my post.

I do agree in what your saying and i can see where your coming from.

There isn't much more that i would be doing. I was going to take pictures and put it up on my website anyways. I think the only extra that i would be doing is putting a section or link to their own page and section with their car and info that they can tell people or post on Craigslist, forum, etc...

again-thank you for your input!!

That's a great observation.

To the OP. The point Tundra makes is good. If you can define your target market, ex. cars 15k+ then I don't believe it would be a problem as far as reputation wise. I believe the idea overall is great, the owners would just have to be motivated. So if your site received alot of traffic, then it would be a really great incentive for the people your trying to reel in.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea. But, I also don't think it's an idea that's going to bring in much business.

To your customers who let you know that they're selling their vehicle...then yes, not a bad idea.
