Do you use a QD/spray wax

I remember that this comparison chart was posted on 2007 or 2008

I use -

-Ultimate Quik Detailer (Nice for drying and leaving behind a glossy finish)

-Zymol Detail wax enhancer (to enhance any beauty wax and renew the gloss)

-Mothers Showtime instant detailer(I really like it, because its great to clean the surface(light dust)with and leaves behind no streaking at all!!)

Others I picked for fun(just to try)

- Rain dance quick detailer (has a strong bubble gum smell, claims to have fillers. Not tried enough to give an opinion!)

-Prestone Quick Shine detailer(gives a really nice shine to the paint. Claims to have carnauba in it! Streaks a little, but its ok!

Regarding use, just mist and wipe! (I usually dust the surface prior to using a QD, with a california duster)

Same thing I do... been doing it for years. I want to "lift" the excess dust off, before I wipe it around with an MF and QD. And for all of you doubters out there, no, the Cali Duster does NOT mar or cause scratches. Just make sure you are "hovering" the duster over your paint, let the duster "bristles" pick the dirt up.

Ever since watching the video by the Junk Man on how to properly quick detail one's car, I too have used my California Duster to gently remove excess dust off before spraying the paint with my quick detailer.

Currently FK 425 is my preferred quick detailer but I do not have strong preferences. I also use Ultimate Quik Detailer and occasionally Sonus Carnauba Spritz. The next time I order from AG I'll probably get myself a bottle of Griot's Speed Shine.

I use a quick detailer to flood bug spattered areas alonfg with a microfiber towel on my car when out for a drive and stopped for fuel. I honestly see no reason for using a quick detailer to remove dust if you own your own home and have a garden hose.

Back when I owned an apartment building and lived in it, I'd use a quick detailer solely because I didn't let my tenants wash their car on the property. Once in a while, I'd sneak a wash in the middle of the day when all my tenants were at work, but never when they could see me do it.

It really doesn't take much longer to wash your car and use Aqua Wax while drying.

For light dust, there is nothing wrong with a California Duster. I've been using one for six years with NO ILL EFFECTS WHATSOEVER.

Though I agree with you regarding your Cali Duster points, I disagree with the above.

Washing a car takes MUCH MUCH more time than detailing a car using a QD and couple of MF's. How do you figure both approaches are nearly equal?

move car out of garage
get bucket, (+ foam gun if needed), soap, wheel cleaner, brushes for tires/wheels, hose, mitts, MF towels, or blower out
pre-rinse car or use foam gun
rinse wheels and tires
spray wheels/tires with cleaner (ARO for example)
wash and scrub wheels/tires
rinse wheels and tires
rinse car again
wash entire car
rinse car (+ sheeting)
blow dry or blot dry car
pull car back in garage
pick up and put away all cleaning equipment

All the above (minus a few steps maybe depending on how in depth your wash is) in your opinion is just a little longer than quick detailing your car??? No way. QD'ing an entire car for me takes 5 minutes. Washing a car for me is close to an hour.

I only use 2 qd's PB S&W and CK QS. Neither streak and both look great.

A gallon of OID makes 4 gallons and costs $49. A gallon of FK425 is $29. Four gallons would cost $126. OID Is the most bang ffor the buck QD i know of! That being said I agree with Corey and Resurfer in that IME OID streaks easier than FK 425,

I agree with all of this.

That said, despite the fact that OID streaks easier than FK425, I have come to believe that I get slightly more gloss with OID than FK425. It's just a bit more difficult to use because of the streaking.

I also noticed that I seem to get less streaking with OID if I am using it on paint that is protected with OS vs another LSP such as a carnauba wax. <shrug>

Unless you're detailing for a living I don't think most people care that a gallon of FK costs $29 and a gallon of OID at $49 would make 5. When a gallon of one or the other (in a ready to use form) would last them long enough that the cost to rebuy wouldn't bother them unless they were absolutely certain they were going to like OID (for example).

If you're just money conscientious to begin with then sure, OID might make more sense.

I was taught that if the labor is free ( your own) use the best and easiest product to work with. I seem foolish for me to buy a product that you need work harder with to save a few bucks.

You do realize that you don't *have* to buy the gallon size of OID, right?!
