Does anyone actually use 6+" pads for correction?

I've realized that using them for my final polish and or wax works well but i can't get much correction at all using large pads.

Do you guys use 6" or larger pads for correction? I have a hard time understanding why LC and other companies even make cutting pads in this size....

or i'm just doing it wrong....

I use the Griots 6" pads all the time. The 6.5's work great too!
 
I use them. Esp on my Flex 3401. I do prefer the 5.5 for most jobs, but, the 6+ do get used.
 
Don't forget about rotary polishers. They have the power to spin bigger pads.
 
I rarely ever use my 6 inch pads any more on my PC7424XP. The 5 inch pads work much better. But for a rotary 6 inch works great!
 
Yep, all I use is 6 1/2" and 4" pads on my Flex 3401 :props:

He's right, on a forced rotation DA the 6.5's work very well. But not as well on clutch system DA's like the Griots and PC IMO
 
They're mostly for rotaries, I myself very much prefer 5.5" pads on my DA

I have no trouble at all spinning 6.5" pads on my griots. In fact, i have a hard time even stopping it.

I mostly use 6.5" and 4" pads on both my da and rotary. But on my original pc, thats a different story. Newer DAs have more then enough power to correct. If you're pressing down that hard to get good correction you need to rethink your approach like using surbufs(very little pressure, massive correction).

I use to big a big fan of 5.5's, but have found myself replacing them with 6.5's as they wearout
 
I only have DAs right now, so 5.5 is best. When I get my rotary 6.5 will probably be the sweet spot.
 
Yes, on my Makita & Flex rotary and on my Flex 3410 dual action polisher...
 
The only pads I use that are larger than 5.5" are the wool pads for my rotary. I have two cheap wool pads, both are 8".
 
I just used my new Meguire's DA with a Meguire's maroon 6.5 inch cutting pad. The DA is powerful.

I'm 6', 260 lbs. and as long as the pad is flat I can put a tremendous amount of pressure on the unit without stopping the pad...with 6.5 inch pads. Worked flawless on a bass boat I just finished.
 
Wow, they must have some big difference in the Megs DA from unit to unit. My buddy just bought one and said it was pretty easy to stop it from spinning.

Could be Corey, idk. I could stop mine as well if I tried to use the edge of the pad, but if it's flat it'll spin the meg's cutting pad and m105 easily. I didn't try to stop it completely, but I did put my body weight into it and even pushed a bit more. It didn't stop and I figured no more sense in trying to get it to stop since it seemed to have more power than I anticipated.

With a 4-5 inch pad I believe I could just about sit on it if it had a steering wheel...ha ha. I'm quite pleased with it.
 
6.5'' and 4'' get used on my rotary, 6.5'' and 5.5'' get used on my 3401.
 
It really depends on the vehicle I'm working on and the shape/size of the panels, but yes I use the 6.5" quite often, especially when finishing on a DA. :dblthumb2:

I wont use smaller on my 3401. Obviously the Flex has the forced rotation to assist a bigger pad.
