Does Wax Durability Matter to You??

Hey Guys!

So I know the 3 easiest ways to provoke an argument is Religion, Politics, and Car Wax. Although I will do it anyways!

Personally I find a lot of times we all care and rate the quality on how long something lasts, wether it be 3-4 months, to 8-12 months (some waxes), we all rate it by durability. Personally I am trying to give up on caring because about once a month, it all gets stripped and re-applied with a new product! Yet part of me still cares about durability!!

How much does durability matter to you??
 
It matters to me a whole lot in the winter. My truck is outside 24/7, I'm away at school, the weather doesn't always cooperate, and my truck won't fit in the garage with the door closed. So I need something that will last.
 
Personally, 0. I apply LSP whether it be the same or or a different one once or twice a month.

Customers however is a different story. This is when a balance between a wax/sealant with great looks & equal durability comes into play.

This is why so many people argue. Wax A has great looks but poor durability, Wax B has better durability, not so great in looks (Collinite). Ive said it before and ill say it again, im in the business of making my car look good.

Durability, not so much.
 
Yeah I'd say it depends on the car. For my G I want it to be shiny all the time and I'm constantly wiping it down. My wife makes faces (she stopped saying anything a loooooooonnnnnggggg time ago) when we go to leave in the car and I grab a bottle of Final Inspection and wipe it down before we can leave the garage! :laughing:

But then on cars that don't stay inside, like my Caddy, I need the most durability I can get. Plus that car doesn't get love like any of our others. Funny though as it doesn't get driven 500 miles a year! :dunno:
I'm actually thinking about doing a mac-daddy compound/polish on it this summer and splurging for a 'coating'. Really like what 22ple does to the plastic and vinyl. :)
 
Used a coating on the daily driver last year and quickly missed all the sprays and new stuff coming to market. Great for family members that dont clean often however.

My dd, my Challenger and my wifes car all see plenty of lsp. I tried to let Max Wax wear out on my dd to test the durability then I thought "why do I care. I'll just apply more"
 
For those who wash and top off their paint with a booster on a weekly or bi weekly basis, it doesn't matter at all.

It's way over blown and frankly the only time of year that it matters is winter in cold climates where it has to last a while.

However if you use one of the rinseless washes in winter that contains wax you don't even need a lot of durability in winter.
 
I live in Texas where the weather is usually pretty good - no snow, no salt or sand, etc. My biggest problem, at least in the summer, is bugs. I'm retired and go out whenever I want so if it is rainy or crappy out I just wait for it to pass. My car is a new MB SUV and I've got all the time in the world to keep it clean. It is a low mileage garage queen that never spends a night outside. For all these reasons, durability of LSP means absolutely nothing to me. I do something to the car virtually every day, be it the wheels, interior, engine compartment, whatever, I always find something to rub on.

For me, at least in the situation I am in right now, it is looks 99%, durability 1%. My quest and the holy grail I seek, is the best possible appearance and finish. Because I consider myself a practical person, if things were different (as they were when I was a younger man when time and money were at a premium), it would probably be the opposite.
 
I care about it. I haven't caught the bug of wanting to wax my car once a month. I'd rather spend that time playing a round of golf or waxing someone else's car for profit. I wash weekly, and if it still beads and has a nice shine afterwards I let it be. I've been thoroughly impressed w/ 845 on my truck (going on 4 mos) and the WGDGPS/Fuzion combo on my car (going on 3 mos).
 
It solely depends on the car and what my goal might be...

Truck - Absolutely
Z06 Corvette - No

Some will say looks and some durability but there are waxes out there that will provide both...
 
I'd have to agree with bobby it depends on the car.

For say my aunt or uncles cars or my grandmas I'll put on something that's durable bc i may not detail it again for months. However for my truck I don't care how Long it lasts bc I will most likely wax once a month and use spray waxes between. Same goes for my moms car or the family Prius.
 
I absolutely agree with Bobby,my wife's 7 series looks are everything.My Rover durability is everything.
 
No. For me, it's ease of use. If I can get 3 months out of an LSP, I'm happy. If CarPro Hydro2 lives up to this, it will be my only LSP.
 
The only car in the fleet that I do when I care about durability is my mother in laws. I did it late last summer with the BF line and haven't touched in since. So I'll see how it lasted as soon as we get a nice weekend here in Iowa.

I said the same thing once I got opticoat lmao!

I can totally relate to this! When Exo went on, part of me died. I really love taking the time to wax the car and try new waxes - Dodo Basics of Bling Protection Wax is a real gem!! Worth trying!!
