This should get a few laughs. I used my new GG to polish/wax my hood, and yes I was nervous. I taped off the fenders and the cowel, just the edges. Well Im happy the hood came out great, but did I mention that I used MASKING TAPE to try and save $$$$ on the painters tape that I had laying there. When I removed the tape OMG glue city, CRAP. So I broke out nail polish remover, luckily it came off and I polished those spots and the rest is history. Yes I learned, dont be so cheap. Go ahead laugh I can take it.Im the MAN

It's all about learning what works and what don't.....:props:

I'm glad you posted. I know nothing yet. Everything I have seen uses masking tape not painters tape. I had no idea.

People don't get no where in life without making mistakes and learning from them, it takes a real man to admit his mistakes.

Yes do yourself a favor use painters tape, trust me.

If you do that a second time we reserve the right to laugh but first time mistakes are understandable.

Lucky it wasn't inside on a wall Masking tape takes paint off sometimes......:buffing:

Hey at least you learned from it. Thats what counts. We all make mistakes and now you know what not to do and whats even better is you admitted to the mistake!

That's right. It's only a mistake if you do it twice.:dblthumb2:

Agree with what has been said so far - when things go wring it is simply an opportunity to learn from the experience, and to then prevent it from happening again.

I had a customer who's car I detailed and shortly thereafter he decided to tape up the whole front end of his car (with masking tape) to protect it on a long-ish road trip.

It was left on for around a week in the hot baking South African sun....

Fortunately for him I was able to sort the problem out for him, but he certainly learned his lesson and is now very afraid of masking tape:laughing:

The masking tape 'drama' can be seen here http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/64469-candy-white-g6-gti-detailed-again-lawrence.html

I'm the kind of person that never laughs at someone when they say they have;
or, it seems that they have...made a mistake.

That old cliché: "What goes around comes around"... comes to mind.

When I removed the tape OMG glue city, CRAP.
So I broke out nail polish remover...
Please use a different solvent to remove glue residue...
especially when it's on a vehicle's paint. Thanks.

:)

That's really not a mistake, just an 'Ah S**t' moment.

A mistake would have been, NOT using any tape and seeing nice shiny metal.

What solvent should I use next time (well next time I make a different mistake)?

I had great success using a dedicated glue/tar remover (autofinesse oblitarate) when fixing the 'mishap' I linked above.

What solvent should I use next time
If it's glues'-residue/adhesives that you want to remove from vehicles' surfaces:

3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, bug and tar remover, adhesive remover, decal remover, tree sap remover

Stoner® XENIT Natural Citrus Mold Cleaner THE FASTEST WAY TO CLEAN DIFFICULT GRIME! Intense orange cleaner, stoner cleaner, all purpose cleaner,

((well next time I make a different mistake))?
I'll have to wait to respond to this query:
Depends on the 'mistake'.

Yeah, I used masking tape ONCE, that won't happen again. It took a long time to tape off the plastice cladding, roof rails, door seals, etc, then even longer to get it off without tearing the rubber, and cleaning the residue. What a PITA!

Like they say, live and learn... also, learn and live.
