Hey everyone! Just recently started getting into detailing. The more i learn the more i want to do. I have a black 2004 audi s4 (71k miles) and a black 1993 suzuki samurai (54k miles). Having black cars--both with pretty significant swirl marks--motivated me to purchase my first bit of detailing supplies. Bought a kit which included a TorqX DA polisher and some chemical guys vline polish along with a full array of hex logic pads. This seemed like a good start for an amateur and at $220 seemed to be a decent deal. Its definitely a "beginners/weekend warriors" polisher but to start out im pretty happy with it. Watched hours and hours of videos and read countless articles and forum discussions to prep myself to begin my first project, full exterior detail on the audi. All of this research led me to autogeek which led me to mike phillips' videos on exterior detailing. Have to say they were the most helpful and thorough videos i have seen! Anyway, excited to learn more and find some help from fellow members! Already have a couple questions, but will head over to the correct forum section to ask haha
 
Mike Phillips book has all the info you will ever need to educate yourself for so little money.Maybe you have a budget and that's understable.you should of gotten the gg6 and some sonax products. Nothing is worse than reburying the right tools.So stick with what you have just bump up to sonax products.

Budget is not really an issue, i mainly didnt want to spend $300+ on a machine i would use a few times per year when i could do just fine with less expensive, however i did not want to go with a harbor freight either so an in between was the goal. I actually decided to go with the TorqX because it has the ability of swapping the backing plate from a 5" to a 6" or a 3" as well. Both the gg6 and TorqX have 8mm throw however the gg6 has a more powerful motor. I decided to trade power for versatility in a single tool as with the suzuki samurai and parts of the s4 a 3" pad will come in handy. I also am happy with the construction quality of the TorqX (its not amazing but not cheap either). Is there a particular reason the gg6 would have been better? Are there particular sonax products you recommend? Because i am new to detailing I would like to try a variety of products before settling on just one brand so the more suggestions the better!
 
You need some better pads.Thin pro pads are the way to go for rotation. The torx buffer I didn't care for.The gg6 is so powerful for 149.00 plus shipping.
 
Yeah i did not have issues with the pad rotating at full speed. Now i have only done a small section on the trunk which has a very slight curve to it but when putting the 7-10lbs of pressure the pad was rotating just fine. And i have marks on the backing plate to ensure it was spinning
