I work at a Toyota dealership, in the Parts Department/Shipping & Receiving, and everyone knows that dealers have that reputation for being dishonest, expensive, rip-off bullcrap. Well, I honestly feel like I work at one of those dealers. Not only have I heard bad things about the car salesmen, but I've been reading numerous reviews online all saying similar negative things. The only respectable person I know in my own department is my own boss, Darrell. The guy is customer oriented and wants them to return, extremely polite and easy to get along with, the dude is just cool. I'm almost 26 and he's like 47, 48, but the guy is so chilled out. I once told him if he had cookout, I'd be there, lol. Funny enough, he's got a cookout going on the 13th and my ass'll be there.

Anyway, the more I read and hear these things, the more I feel like I'm part of something bad and unprofessional. I very rarely have customers get angry with me, I've had lots say I've got a great attitude and I'm friendly and helpful, etc. And most of the other guys are just the opposite. If things don't go their way, they just can't handle it and I hear how they talk to people on the phone, too. Crazy things are said and I know customers aren't always a joy, I've had a select few really crawl under my skin, but the guys in my department have really sh!tty attitudes and it's kinda rubbing off on me. I find myself being more negative about my own job and almost openly comlaining. I need to be more thankful for job.

I could go on all day...

Anyone feel this way about their job?

Yes, I do. I'm a civil servant. I see the bottomless pit where the other half of people's paycheck winds up. I find the idea of politicians sitting around thinking of ways to spend other people's money immoral. When I retire I look forward to getting a job on the supply side as an act of redemption.

I understand the job market sucks but I'd start looking. Don't let their bad habits and attitude rub off on you! Dealerships and auto parts stores are always looking for someone with experience and where there is 1 dealership there are usually more around. I've changed entire careers quite a few times but always seem to end up back in the car business somehow, and always came out ahead in the long run. Life's too short not to be proud of who you are and what you do. If others keep you from doing that then I would move on!

Why do you think you need to be more thankful for your job? You sound like a great employee, your employer should be thankful to have you.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking for another job. Sounds like you have a great reference from your boss and seem to be a valuable employee.

Keep your head up. You only get to play this game (life) once, don't waste it around negative, crappy people.

I like the people I work with, we joke, we laugh and stuff and occasionally bump heads, not so much myself. I'm outgoing, but I'm more so quiet and kinda hang back, lol.

We're moving to a brand new dealership, built from the ground up. My idea is if I don't get a raise going into the new facility, getting more business and more work for the same money, I'm gonna start looking. I'm only making $8.50 an hour and I carry my weight and lots of times, my co-workers wait. I need at least $10 when we go to the new place. If they can't get me that or very close, I'm gonna start looking at closer Toyota dealers. Just gotta stop my MJ consumption...

I felt funny about my job, when I came to the company I work for. The Boss's son was in the middle of taking things over and the company rep was not good.

My boss is younger than myself by many years....but we seem to always see eye to eye, and he his a very fair person.

things got rough (no work) layoffs came and it was my turn........I understould I was the low man on the pole.....

He would stop by the house and see how I and my family was doing and would always say " hang in there things are going to get better".....in the back of mind I thought the same thing too.

Some of the other guys did not have the faith and are long gone......and I will say I'm the #3 man in the Company......not #20.

I've been rambling myself......I guess the point is keep your head up, keep doing what your doing and " things will get better"

Honestly, you aren't going to find much different at any dealer you go to, that's why they call them stealerships. Usually the parts guys are the best guys in the dealer.

Drugs are a tool that help you get from point A to point B. I wouldn't use them for recreation.

Act as if you are the hero in your own movie.

I used to work for a company involved with the petrol industry. While the salary was excellent, I've always felt uneasy, and as you've put it, "ashamed". Often I would distance myself from said company & associates while overseas. Not so regarding safety, but rather ashamed of the methods conducted. I'd rather be thought of as a "tourist" than a company man. It was an interesting experience, but I wouldn't do it again.

NO...I never, ever was ashamed of where I worked!!

Conversely:
I made sure that: wherever I worked...was never, ever ashamed of me.

As such: I was always thankful for the Good Lord above for his guidance.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln:
"I like to see a man proud of the place at which he works.
I like to see a man work so that his place will be proud of him".

The guys at my job and my boss are all proud of me, I would say. They call me "ol' reliable" and they say I always get things done and they trust. Even my boss will ask me to do something because he knows my main co-worker will either forget and he basically can't trust him to get it done, lol. I just feel a bit overworked and underpaid lately...

OP, your doing the best job you can and that's all you can do, keep up the good work.

I've worked for a company with poor quality and on time shipping stats.

Yes I was embarrassed.

Fortunately we turned it around.

But we had a bad reputation that was a pain to turn around!!!

:xyxthumbs:

I feel as if I do a great job, but I have my off days and I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying "F*CK IT!!

LOL.

I received a high paying job offer straight out of college working for a tobacco company. I don't have any moral issues with selling smokers cigarettes. However, I was concerned with family and public perception, so I found another job. Life's too short to be ashamed of where you work.

What is the toyota dealership called you work at?

Lakeland Toyota.

I'm not trying to bad mouth my own job, but sometimes people are just despicable. However, if you ever need some good discounts on Toyota parts, I'll hook you up, lol. I try to help people out, not rob them. Just ask for Nick. ;)
