Excellent marketing scheme by Sonax...

the smell issobad after i washed my rims and went inside for a drink .came back out side and walkednear my truck i could still smell it.very unpleasant..i wouldnt want a customer picking up there car and have a foul oder coem from the rims.. thats why i only use chemicals that have nice fresh sents

I read somewhere it is acid based, just neutralized to a low PH, and thus likely where the smell is derived. Also kinda hard to cover up acid scent IMO.

While this product does seem to be "cool" I have no need for another wheel cleaner.

I do not have a problem getting wheels clean with AG CWC (regular jobs), P21s (carbon/ceramic brakes) and Megs WB (REALLY BAD jobs) so for me, I see this as more hype than anything else??

I don't see how this would be considered hype? The product has been released, tested, reviewed, and proven. It works. Is it a bit on the pricey side? Yes. To some it's worth it, to some it's not - just like any other high end product. Personally, I found the stuff pretty fun to use because the color change is pretty cool and its cleaning ability is great. Would I use it again on my own car? Absolutely. Would I use it if I was detailing full time? Probably not.

I personally think _ANY_ new product on the market that is advertised as an "upper echelon" type detailing product starts off very hyped up. Take DODO Juice for example, it was HUGE just 2 years ago and now I've seen a couple of smaller eRetailers claiming they sell next to none of it now. The hype that surrounded the initial release ended up being the only thing that kept the momentum on the product.

I agree it's spendy in a 16ounce size. I remember buying Sonax Gloss Shampoo in 2002(ish) and loving it, but even then that was spendy in itself. :)

I still use the SGS bottle, it had a nice flip top lid like the Nano Wax Sonax sells now, I just pop the lid and fill it with my favorite soap. Makes for easy dispensing.

Like I said, for me, I would consider it hype due to the fact that I can get wheels clean with my current products, at a cheaper price... Sans the color changing effect

I guess I view the word "hype" differently than others. Sure, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the Sonax products since they are fairly new, but they do work great so I don't consider it hype. To me, hype is when a product is raved about just because it's the new hotness, but is really mediocre...or when it gets really built up before it's released, only to be a disappointment. Sonax products definitely are not mediocre by any means. :)

Agreed...

I in no way meant to imply that the product does not work well...

In my opinion, for the premium price when compared to the current 3 products I use that perform flawlessly, I need more than a cool color changing effect to even consider....

The color change isn't a marketing thing, it's just the cleaner reacting with the iron in the brake dust deposits.

I believe Sonax did try to make it smell nice, but they went the wrong way. They used a minty scent to try to make it blend in with the natural small of the product, but it just accentuates the grossness of it. If you smell really carefully, it does have a light minty odor to it.

I agree that the Sonax 500mL bottle is ridiculously priced, but the 5L bottle is very reasonable because it changes the way I clean wheels. With any other wheel cleaner, I have to actually brush the wheel. When I am using the Sonax, I just have to use the brush to move the product around and then just rinse and everything comes off.

The two major drawbacks are the smell and that it does nothing to clean tires. The color-changing effect is moot after the first time. It's more like, I spray and it's green/yellow and then the next time I look at the wheel it's already red. I haven't gotten rid of my other wheel cleaners, but it immediately became the #1 wheel cleaner on my shelf.

The color change is certainly a reaction but I think they probably had some control over what color the reaction would cause.

I wouldn't call it hype personally. It's certainly cool that it changes colors but nobody would be excited if it didn't work great. Then the color change would just piss people off. From what I hear this product has some powerfull cleaning abilities with less work then other products.
