I was just wondering if any of you guys have ever charged a customer an extermination charge for roaches? I'm doing the worse vehicle I've ever done and have run across 4 alive and 5 dead. Also id like to note things ive learned today, even at full sprint a vacuum will suck them up and they hate steam and will come running out of door panels when you steam near them ;)
 
I'll file this away in my "hope I never need to use this" file, just in case I'm wrong about that.

Oh I can't do roaches!!! I have a terrible phobia.. Creeeeep me out!! I would turn it down cause I just would not be able to get that close

The roaches dont bother me but the roach poop on the back leather seats when I folded them up almost made me gag
 
I don't even want to know what you'd have to do to get roaches in a car. Owner must be a slob.
 
A number of years ago, I had a friend and his parents owned a pet shop. Due to the number of animals, food, etc, they had roaches. One day a lady came in and asked for a bag of roaches to put in her ex's car, as a payback for him cheating on her.

I don't know what happened after that...

My suggestion would be to set off 2 of those bug bombs and leave the doors shut for a couple of hours then proceed

I would also empty out your vacume NOW. You don't want one of those dudes crawling out on your next detail into your next clients car

I once found a dead mouse in my shop vac. I guess the little dude crawled up in there and could'nt find his way out

Plan B, would be to call Billy the Exterminator......duuuuuuuuuuude!!!!
 
I've encountered mice alive and dead a brown recluse spider a wasp nest and more mold than I ever want to remember. But I gotta say I have never run across any roaches.
 
I'm with Flash, vacuuming them up wont kill them, you need to empty that vac out as soon as possible, or you may have roaches in your vehicle/house.

I once got in my car at night and started driving the 2 mile trip to my house...and I heard something banging against the back window (inside). When I could see it silhouetted against the window, it was huge! I actually thought it must be a hummingbird, but I wasn't really sure what it was.

When I got home and into the garage, it was a giant moth--bigger than any I've ever seen. The body was as big as my finger! Normally I wouldn't be squeamish about killing a moth, but this thing freaked me out, and it was flying around in the car, so I decided to vacuum it, which worked, I figured it would probably kill it since moths are soft, right?

Well, I decided just in case I should take the bag out of the vac and toss it. So I put the bag on top of the garbage can and go inside to put the vac away and I come out and it's crawling out of the bag! I grabbed something and sprayed him with it which knocked him down I then I squished him. Anyway, vacuuming up roaches isn't going to kill them, that's like a ride at Six Flags to them.
 
Good ideas, I'll did that with the vac and safely set off a bomb, was tough finding a place to put it, didn't want to stain up the interior just in case. It was awesome I put the steamer against the passenger side rear door panel near a crack and hit it with the steam, a couple roaches came out the hole on the underside! This is going to be a great show and shine in a couple days, half the interior is finished, 10am-8pm lol
 
yeah, bug bomb for sure like Flash said. I've never had to do this...but I would for sure charge extra for this process. Also, bug bomb it outside somewhere, ha. You don't want them moving into your house or shop!

I'd say an extra $75 for having to even deal with that. I would consider that cheap too.

Yea I contacted the customer when I saw live ones and told him there would be an extra charge he had no problems with that just was trying to get a feel for what others were charging if they had run across this problem, i was thinking 50-75 would be about right, just for dealing with the smell more then the bugs lol
 
I wouldn't be so certain a standard bug bomb will kill them. It may, but I wouldn't chance it. Those things are like cyborg's. May want to give a pro a call on that one. They may tell you what you can use to get rid of them. They say boric powder works, but fortunately I've never had to test it out. I'd say roaches are more resistant to most bug killers than any other type of bug.

Better hope you don't get any eggs on you, or in that sweeper or your in for it.

If all else fails C4 works wonders...don't think the customer would appreciate that though.

If i ever found a roach in, near, around my car, im calling my insurance because the only way id take care of it would be through burning. Those suckers are the hardest to rid of them all.

Bill you were correct, oh my.....today there was still 5 alive, none dead!! Hot shot for the lose! I found a new home for them as well, under the carpet, while cleaning under the driver seat there was a break in the carpet 2 came crawling out :(

I would definitely charge extra for this process, and 75 seems fair as they are disgusting. Also, I've been looking at your work lately, and nothing but flawless. Good luck on the rest of the car!!
 
Um...so what exactly was going on in that car? The customer was driving it every day and didn't think maybe I should clean up this food and gunk when they started to see roaches??

To be honest I'm not sure they could even see the roaches most of my pics were after I pulled four bags of trash out of the car to get a better look at the seats and carpet, when I told them there would be an extra charge for the bugs being in the car he just said ok that's fine. I'm not even sure how a child could sit on a seat this nasty, and with one on the way I know for sure my kid would never be exposed to something like this, even a Dakota smoke odor eliminator is having trouble masking the smell, and if you've ever smelled one of those I didn't think it could happen.
