Have never used it, but if only 1 machine I would take a hard look at this one:

Makita Bo6040 Polisher

That is pretty nifty, if they had a 3" version I'd be more interested right now, seeing as I own a rotary and a DA. It says it tops out at 670 RPM, my rotary starts at like 800. I guess you could have a lot of success with MF pads, but foam would probably have a hard time correcting.

I'd pick my makita rotary with soft start, but I feel like the flex is probably a better machine I just haven't tried it.

If I could hone my skills to finish better with the rotary I would only want my PE14 Flex. Its so much nicer to use than the 3401 and much quicker. Most of the stuff I do is in rough shape, gets abused daily and has thick paint. FG400 with the PE14 is the perfect combo for most of it. If it wasn't for the faint holograms left over from the wool pads I wouldn't use the 3401 at all after it as the FG400 finishes nice. With foam the holograms are even less noticeable but still bug me. In reality, its daily abused equipment and covered with dust, nobody else notices them, but they bother me and I don't want someone to notice them and think my quality is poor, so I take the time to do them.

If I had to only have one, it would have to be the 3401, even though it takes much longer to get the same results and wears me down a little more than the rotary, its easier to achieve perfection at the end of the day.

I mean for a quick polish / cleaner / wax application I can see an orbital being efficient. (this is what I use it for in production detailing) No need to tape anything off really, just put the product on and buzz away, but for actual correction I don't see how you guys are doing it without a rotary.

Rupes ad Flex are both great machines. They get the defets out and holograms arent an issue. If you have the chance you should try both of those machines out.

Yeah, when I saw that it made me decide against it. Now if LC come out with foam pads for it, I'll be in trouble. That 21 seems like a must have at that point.

BTW: I just bought a GG and a HF so I think I better sit back for a spell.

Pay cash, there is no paper trial, what she does not know wont hurt her. Heck, if you feel gulty, take her out for dinner or buy her a new pair of shoes. rops:

Whatever rotary you can find for a good deal (even the Harbor Freight ones do well) with the Dynabrade attachement. You get all the niftiness of that Makita for less than half the price, and you get more performance out of it (real speeds instead of being limited to under 1000 rpm).

Bobby, I used the 21 to polish my truck, used foam pads and they still look great. The guy who said they break foam pads probably works for Rupes.... He wants you to buy his pads.
