Greetings all,

I special ordered a Mini Cooper Clubman S a couple months ago and finally took delivery a couple weeks ago. While I was waiting for it I spent my team researching various coatings. Since it was my first attempt at using one of these, I went with McKee’s 37 as it was touted as being very user friendly.

I told the dealer not to touch the car when it came in and they were great about it only removing what ever wrapping that came on it.

The paint was in really great shape so I washed and clayed it followed by a light polish with Pinnacle paint cleansing lotion. All of that was the hard part, applying the coating was a piece of cake.

I followed up by doing the same process on my wife’s 2014 Pathfinder today. It looks amazing as well. Not sure what the longevity on this coating will be but it was a breeze to apply.

Looks great. Congrats on the new Mini.

I might have to try McKee’s coating next year. Let us know how the durability goes.

I just saw a picture of a Mini in “white silver”. That is the one of the coolest looking colors offered in any car.

Thanks for the compliments. The color on mine is called Melting Silver and is actually more on the metallic gray side. I have a neighbor with a white silver Mini so I certainly couldn’t get that.

Stunning gloss shots, Loonysup! Not only is white difficult to photo that good but it's tough to see any liberally applied high spots of a coating. You nailed 'em both.

The vehicles look good!

I'm not sure about your climate, but I have the McKee's 37 original coating on three of our family cars. Two have been wearing it for a year, the other about 7 months. All three vehicles are going strong. The new formula is supposed to last longer, so it should do even better than what I see.

At this point I'm looking at replacing the coating next spring which will be about the 18 month point. The coating might last longer, but both of the longer term vehicles will probably need to be polished up a bit after two winters. I'm starting to see a few swirls and some water spots.

Great job Loonysup! The Clubman S and Pathfinder look awesome.

What did you use to remove the polishing oils?

I used Carpro Eraser in between the polish and coating step (forgot to mention that).

A couple of side notes- I used the same coating for the wheels on the Mini and so far I’m really happy with the results. Also, after you use the coating, make sure you squirt water through the spray bottle to clean it out or it will clog. Sounds obvious but I forgot to do it and had to find another bottle.

Just for clarity, Pinnacle Paint Cleansing Lotion is not a polish, but a paint cleaner. In our detailing world, a polish has abrasives and a paint cleaner is a chemical cleaner. BTW nice job on both cars.
