First Correction Attempt - Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System

Just joined the forums a day ago after receiving my first shipment of stuff from AG. I purchased:

- Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System
- Meguiars Dual Action 6 Inch Polisher G110v2
- Klasse AIO

My plans is to wash and clay the car then proceed to the Meguiars D300 DA Microfiber Correction Compound. I was also planning on skipping the Meguiars D301 DA Microfiber Finishing Wax and applying Klasse AIO right after the correction compound. Lastly I was planning on finishing with a nice coat of wax.

Any flaws in my plan? Suggestions are very welcome, tons of experts here who I'm sure can teach me a lot.
 
If your car is the Audi in your avatar, that should be fine. Needing a finishing polish after D300 entirely depends on the paint, hard or soft, etc. If it looks good to you, then proceed to the Klasse.
 
Not the new generation C7 A6 like in the avatar, but the C6 A6. Here is a picture of my car:

A few of the panels have been repainted (years ago). Would that be a concern?
 
Audi paints are generally on the hard side. I think the D300 and straight to Klasse and top it with wax would look fine, especially in that color.

The DA correction system was designed for OEM factory paint. But I have done it on cars that have been repainted with good results. You might need a finishing polish to remove any hazing from the D300. The repainted panels might be softer than the original hard Audi paint.

No heavy defects, just minor swirls from improper washing by the previous owner. I'm a total noob when it comes to machine polishing and it looks like the DA Microfiber system is easy to use while minimizing the chances of creating more swirls/holograms. This is just seemed like the safest place to get started.

The D301 is a finishing polish with wax as I understand. Would it make sense to start with D300, follow with D301, then Klasse and lastly wax? Or would that be like applying Klasse over wax and then applying wax again?

I have heard from meguiars to not use the system too much as it is very abrasive. Try to stick with UC and the pads you use as most of the defects are thinned out

Dont use the system, as in the MF discs?
Or the d300??

D301 was designed to remove hazing created by D300, I don't know if KAIO can do that since it has no abrasives in it. But definitely it will keep you from making more Swirls and holograms.

Just a question, what would be your objective putting klasse over D301? You can put wax directly on D301.

Concours Tip

If you really want to amplify the shine, apply a layer of carnauba over a layer of sealant. The sealant will create a glossy, hard coating while the carnauba wax will enhance the depth and dimension of the paint. A popular combination in the forums is Klasse All-In-One under Pinnacle Souverän Wax.

This is where I got the idea of applying the Klasse sealant followed by a coat of wax.

Test spot on both OEM and repaint.

The system is good to use for your car. If you have refinished panels, just do test spots on this panels. Read labels. Watch YouTube videos of the system. You will be fine.
 
I was at a factory demo of the Meguiar's DA MF system on Tuesday . The factory rep, Dan told us that the Meg's MF kit will generally correct and remove less clear coat in the process. So I didn't get the impression it was overly aggressive from him. I bought the system and having seen the demo I plan on correcting the black paint on my 96 Cobra soon. My plan is to correct with the cutting pad, then polish with M205, and finish with a glaze as my LSP I hope to use WGDGPS. Spiney-Dave

Oh I see, I now have a grasp of what would you like as your final look. There is one small problem though, D301 has wax in it, and if you're going to put Klasse sealant on top of it, the sealant may not properly bond with the paint. What you can do though is to use Klasse AIO first to remove the wax, then you can top it with klasse sealant then your favorite wax, or you can go directly from Klasse AIO to wax. so many choices, i am sure what ever route you go, you will love the end result. :dblthumb2:
 
I like your plan of attack. The DA system is awesome for detailing hobbyists and professionals as well. You should be able to achieve good results with the combo. Klasse AIO sounds like a nice follow up product for the D300/MF combo. Post some pics!
 
I will finally have a chance to get this done today. I'll post some pics as soon as I start working.
 
D300 is a step above UC and Right below m105 . Start with Uc on the red cutting pad and apply moderate pressure and slow arm speed with 50 percent overlapping passes. If the defects are not removed by 4 section passes, step it up to d300
