First Engine Detail +HL Dehazing

What sealant do you guys use for the headlights?

If I bought a rotary buffer, how bad is the learning curve on using one of these for buffing/polishing paint. I see a lot about the DA polishers being better for beginners.

Thanks all for tips.

May I suggest CD-2 Engine Detailer as a dressing? It will take the brown out of that intake tube.

Thanks for that rec Dave I went and got some it did get that brown out. I'll post a pic with dressing after it dries. Taking a long time to dry think I was a little overzealous.

Also thanks to Mindflux for sharing your technique for the HL.

Alright final post.

Heres the image with the CD-2 Applied.

I ran engine for like 15 mins drove for 10 and left hood up for like 25mins still have some droplets on it as you can see. Think I over did application. Looks a lot better with the CD-2

Thanks to all for your input greatly appreciated.

@Mindflux you win the debate I see how your technique is a better choice. Sorry for being a little overly defensive.

No need to apologize. You got results you were pleased with and THAT is what's important. Loving the engine with CD-2. Bravo!

I have a couple cans but I can't find more around this area for some reason.

Hey Allen,

I think ive got a few good suggestions for you.

For a sealant that ive seen work really well and you can get a TON of applications for a small invesment try this....a 50/50 mix of mineral spirts and clear high gloss Spar Urthane.

This thread http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...ration-new-uv-sealant-idea-22.html#post357379 was started over a year ago and the guy who started the thread posted pictures a year after applying the sealant and they were still just as nice.

In short, you just need a small mix of the 50/50...and get a roll of those blue Scotts papertowels..a huge roll is like $1.80 at wal-mart. After you clean the lights up you dip your paper towel...folded into a small square...into the sealant and apply it. It goes on super easy and if the surface is smooth enough, no streaks. If it does streak, just wipe the light clean with spirits and re apply...real simple.

Check the link..theres a LOT of posts...but its worth it.

As far as getting a machine...personally i'd just get a PC...thats what i have...even the original like i have has TONS of correction ability with a couple 4" pads.

Heres a link to my first restoration http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/25948-first-headlight-restoration-96-taurus.html

I just used 105/205 with an orange pad and white pad...and in that case i used plast-x to top it off, but if you use the sealant listed above, you wont need it.

Since your on a budget..you can buy megs Ultimate Compound and Swril-X over the counter for probably $15 total from walmart? If you dont have any pads yet just use what you have available till you do.

For me like i said all i have is my PC and i can use it for headlights or paint correction...and you can get great results with a DA...heres the last detail I did with my sis, we wernt going for 100% correction but still got close to it with the PC. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...around-lots-pics.html?highlight=huge+suburban

You can probably find a used one for pretty cheap now that they came out with the new PC. Id check ebay, craigslist or even meguiarsonline.com in their 'for sale' area. Autopia.org has a classified area where you'll find used buffers sometimes too.

I was in the same spot as you, tight budget but want to start a business. For me i was able to get small wash/wax jobs for pretty cheap and be able to use that money to buy equipment, which i can now use for more expensive jobs :).

Hope that helps and if you have any ?'s about the sealant or headlights or anything else for that matter let me know, even PM me if you want.

Good luck!
