First time polishing 2000 SUBARU OUTBACK

Hey guys

So for my first time ever polishing i decided to practice on my dads outback. The car has 212000kms and its rarely washed.

Here are some pics ( i only did a bit of the hood since i had little time to spend)

Followed Mikes advice and taped a rectangle on the hood.

In order to accomplish these results i followed the instructions in the video ( http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...2-griot-s-garage-random-orbital-polisher.html )

I only used the wolf and megs so far, there is no wax or sealent on the paint yet.

Im really happy with the result, ill be finishing the hood tonight and planing on doing the whole car this weekend.

Awesome job!! :dblthumb2: You took pics that are way better than mine when I did my first paint correction. Keep up the good work!!
 
Great work, that definately does not look like your first time polishing with those results! One thing I want to suggest is to avoid resting the polisher and bottles on the paint due to scratches but you really did a great job, hope to see some full after pictures of the car!

thanks so much for the good feedback!

Im trying to finish up the hood now but i think i might be doing something wrong. I find it harder to remove the product one im done a pass, i have to rub for a long time till everything is gone.
I also wanted to know if this is normal ? I dont know why but it seems like the product is staying in the outer part of the pad for some reason

Would this have to do with washing the pad last night?maybe im putting too much product on the pad ? .
Once i finished cleaning the pad i put it back on the pc i ran it for around 10 secs at speed 6 to get rid of the water .

Am i better off cleaning the pad before i continue or should i just keep going ?

I get that when using meguiar's 105, I see your using 205(I haven't used it) but I would imagine it's normal for that product line. The other product lines that I use don't cake up like that. I can tell you though that you will lose cutting ability when the pad is all caked up like that. I wash on the fly and spin them dry with my rotary.

Forgot to mention, great job!!
 
Make sure to do an IPA wipedown so you can see your true results. :dblthumb2:
 
Did you find the Subaru paint to be pretty soft? I did my car yesterday and I barely had to put in any effort.

To be honest i have no idea! The hood was repainted and this is the first time i doing paint correction so i cant compare it to anything!

The little dots are rock chips. I know it might not be perfect but it looks 1000 times better than before

This is because of the behavior of the machine. DAs oscillate and circulate, so more force is exerted because there is no permanent center as compared to rotaries. Compounds/polishes on the pads are pushed outwards, and farther away from the center the stronger the force. I'm not really good at explaining..lol. but i hope you got what i meant.

I wouldn't do that on a DA. That is only recommended for a rotary. DAs oscillate also so too much force on the velcro and BP to hold it in place. Same concept above. Since rotaries have fixed centers, not much force is absorbed by the BP. Pads will tend to fly off if used on a DA. Mike uses a terry cloth to clean DAs on the fly.

You can clean them without washing them, using the brush AG sells. But a clean and dry washed pad is always better. More pads is another option.

IPA is isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol). An IPA wipedown is very important during polishing because it removes polishing oils left behind. Polishing oils will fill and cover up swirls and marring, so you're not getting a true reading of your paint correction.

hey guys

So my dad used the car today. I just put it in the garage and realized that there is water marks everywhere on the hood!! I washed the hood and dried it but the marks are still there. I dont know what to do i was ready to wax but im unsure now

Really? With Wolfgang Deep Gloss just applied? Sounds like some extremely hard water. You may want to try a claybar, or the claybar that Pinnacle offers that glides above wax to remove defects without removing wax:
Pinnacle’s Ultra Poly Clay is the single finest clay composition available today. Use auto Detailing clay to deep clean car paint, glass and chrome.
If that doesn't work a full claybar and wax re-apply may be necessary.
 
but i didnt wax it yet!

i sealed last night at around 10 and my dad left this morning at 6am and came back at around 2, it didnt rain or anything.
