I washed the car over the weekend, I always have my fitbit on my side but never really looked into the numbers after a car wash. I was amazed, after washing the car rinseless style with UWW+, cleaning the wheels, tires, etc. Applying a coat of DoDo Anniversary wax, vacuuming the interior and a quick cleaning with CG Inner Clean. I was amazed to see i took around 8,638 steps, which for me averages out to 2.2 miles. I was amazed I had walked around the car that much looking over every inch to ensure it was clean. This was just a basic once a month big wash, I can't imagine what the numbers would've showed for a detail including a polish, or a 2 step with a coating application, my goodness!

Anyway, if you put on a few extra lbs' over the holidays, wash your car, you'll burn at least 1100 calories!:dblthumb2:

I have a dedicated HRM for when I run, but if you don't have a fitbit get one, they're fun!

Chris I too have a fitbit and I love it.

Yeah I did a big truck Christmas week and mine said I did like 12,500 steps, I'm not buying it. I think there's no way for it to tell the stride on your steps. So a bunch of little steps vs. full strides, it doesn't know the difference. It said I took 16,850 steps and walked 7.5 miles for the entire day. I sure didn't feel like I walked 7.5 miles.

If I walk 16,850 steps or 7.5 miles and wear two FitBit's. would that mean I walked 33,700 steps or 15 miles? :dunno:

:)

No chance!!!!

I agree, the day I detailed this Chevy Quad cab it said:

  • 16,853 steps
  • 2 floors (getting in and out of the bed)
  • 7.51 miles
  • 3,473 calories
No way did I burn that many calories or walk that far, these things are far from accurate. And how can they tell the difference between my stride at 5'-8" vs my buddy at 6'-1"?

You set your stride on fitbit.com. I run with a GPS tracker and my fitbit and the accuracy after setting my running stride is +/- 1%. The little device tied to the loseit app helped motivate me to lose 30 lbs last year and keep it off the last 6 months.

What are everyone's time frames for the Fitbit calculating your info during these details?

In the setting there is a place where you put in your stride length and your running stride length. For walking they are very accurate once you do this. For washing cars you do shuffle your feet so they will not be as accurate. I have 3 pedometers and the Fit Bit One and the Ozeri are very accurate and the Omron is pretty close also.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. That's also what I thought on the shuffling around when detailing.
