Well, I was on one of my other detailing forums the other day, and apparently Phil and his crew at Detailer's Domain announced that Flex will be making smaller backing plates for those interested in using 4" pads. These backing plates will be made directly by Flex and are an original Flex part, not after-market.

Detailer's Domain already has the item on their website available for preorder at $29.99, delivery expected next month, March 2011.

I am in no way affiliated with Detailer's Domain and just wanted to let fellow Flex users know of the great news.

So here's the question.... is Autogeek planning on getting into this? It would be awesome to have some competitive pricing on these....I'm thinking let's do a group buy so that everybody benefits. I'm sure the demand will be huge!

Kaban, you're a little late to the party. There are already several other threads about this topic. A couple were even started by moderators, so Autogeek is definitely on top of it.:xyxthumbs:

that Flex will be making smaller backing plates for those interested in using 4" pads.

The prototype backing plates that we have from Flex are 4 3/8". If the production plates will also be running 4 3/8" I would not recommend using them with 4 inch pads as they would hang over the edge. 5-5.5 inch pads would be ideal with this backing plate as we have them now.

I hope the actual one is no more than 4"....

I highly doubt it.

Just like Meguiars introduced their new MF pad as 5", but they're actually 5.5". They Flex BP is advertised as 4", but it's probably going to be 4 3/8".

It was already stated to be 4 3/8". That makes it really only 1" shorter than the stock BP. 3 3/8" would've been great to use the 4" pads.

As I stated before, I think the new backing plate would be most useful for people who already have 5.5" pads and want a 3401. Does no good for me.

No good for me either. We could probally cut it like someone did to the stock BP in another thread.

I got all excited and thought I can finally use 4" pads.....
