The new FLEX backing plates will be available in January. They will come in a kit as all three parts. The gear plate, the 4" plate and the 6" plate.

Good news! Thanks for the update Eric!

On the left is the 6" backing plate, center is the 4" backing plate and on the right is the interface plate that enables you to switch between either the 6" or the 4" backing plate.

Here's a view of the other side so you can see the ribs for strength, the plate itself is very rigid and this is part of the design that does away with the felt ring.

The protruding tabs lock into the slots on the interface plate and then both are bolted to the spindle.

lololol. I thgouht is was a good one, but I figured some would be offended

Thanks for the update Eric! I can't wait for these.

Are the 4" BPs going to be slightly smaller than 4" to have some margin of error for the 4" pads?

Eric, is there a chance that we can purchase the 4 and 6" separately? Or are you set that this will be sold as a kit?

Thanks.

They will be sold as a kit. They will also come with a screw and washer.

Can you give the exact diameter of the 4" backing plate? I have a feeling it won't work with 4" pads that have slightly recessed backings.

If the loop on the back of the pad is smaller than 4", it will not work.

Good stuff! I am very glad Flex finally addressed the issue of the lack of backing plates for this machine. I actually cut up about a year ago a factory 5.5" BP that looks almost identical to the 4" BP shown in the pictures here, but mine is even smaller (roughly 3.65"). I've been using it for a while with great success.
